LCM Database Passphrase

Hi all,

I have run into a bit of an issue that requires me to manually install components on my IaaS node.. however it eventually gets to the point of asking for the vRA db passphrase.  The LCM form never asks to input this and I have tried the passwords used during the deployment and none of which work.

I am hoping there is a way to retrieve this passphrase (that was mysteriously set) or else i foresee a complete teardown and rebuild.  If this is the case, I can see this irritating a lot of customers!

Someone please help!

Thanks

I am having problems with Vcenter. I am getting "503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE: 0x0000562aca3f19b0] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName = / var / run / vmware / vpxd-webserver-pipe)" when I connect via https.

I did some troubleshooting and narrowed down the issue to postgresql does not come up.

Reduce disk size on LogInsight appliance

Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to reduce the size of disk on a LogInsight installation?

I'm running Version 4.7.1-10752772 with 5 disks in total.  One system disk and then four  logdisks at about 500GB a piece.  I would like to try and remove one or two of the logdisks.

Is this possible without setting up an entirely new enviorment?

Best regards

Developing Remote Plug-in, using local sdk web client V 6.7U2

Hi,

I have been working on a prototype for a Remote Plugin.  I have registered the plugin, started it and was able to view the plugin in the web-client.  That worked well by just following the documentation.

Working in another location, behind tunnels and firewalls, I try to view the plug-in, but the remote vCenter can't download the plugin.json from my location - I had expected this.

So I tried starting the webClient from the sdk (startup.bat)  on my local machine.  This webClient is attached to the remote sso server, so it found the registration - it was able to download the plugin.json and performed the validation checks on it (seen in the virgo.log) - After the checks are completed, the reverse proxy should be configured. But this causes an exception.

It seems like the htmlClient is looking for the rhttpproxy on my local host - instead of on the vCenter Server.  I found this entry in the virgo.log

[2019-05-22T06:50:27.379+02:00] [ERROR] equinox-activator             com.vmware.vise.extensionfw.impl.remote.RemotePluginConfig        Did not manage to find reverse proxy configuration file at C:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\cfg\vmware-rhttpproxy\config.xml. Will try to make requests to the RPx REST API on port 549

And of course that is true, I don't have the file there.  I looked in the SDK, but did not find one as well.  I found the file on the remote vcenter, but do not know what values to change and how.

I reran the dev-setup.sh on the vCenter, hoping that maybe a config.xml would be generated, but that is not true.

Can some one help me here?  I want to tell the RemotePluginReferseProxy to use the rhttpproxy on the remote vcenter - not on local host. (If I understand it correctly)

thanks

Cathy

One or more VIBs mapping to Bulletin VMW-ESX-6.0.0-ixgben-1.7.15 have dependencies not installed on the host:

[tried to move the topic from vSphere but this was not possible]

Hi,

I imported driver vib for ixgben driver version 1.7.15 (VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search) into 6.5 VUM patch repository (VCSA). Then I added this vib to a custom baseline, I did the same a while ago for version 1.7.10, but can't remember if I had same problems back then.

But I'm unable to install this vib,

vmware-vum-server-log4cpp.log:

[2019-05-28 12:24:48:693 'HostUpdateDepotManager' 140273770456832 INFO]  [scanHost20, 1436] One or more VIBs mapping to Bulletin VMW-ESX-6.0.0-ixgben-1.7.15 have dependencies not installed on the host: xxxxxxxx (entity: host-39) and not part of the bulletin, marking as 'UNKNOWN' for DVS scan

I'm able to install the vib with cli without problems, only VUM is not liking it. Any idea why and how to resolve this? Using cli to rollout his vib to a larger number of hosts is not the most efficient way.

I have a user that may be in multiple AD groups that has different roles assigned to them in vcenter. Is there a way in vcenter to see what role is being assigned to them when they log in?

This will help me narrow down the role i need to modify

Not able to create datastore with Areca 1883 RAID-Controller and ESXI 6.5

Hi guys,

I currently have a problem with one of my servers running ESXI 6.5 and using an ARECA 1883 Controller.

So, I already installed the latest update for my ESXI for 6.5 following the guide from How to update any VMware ESXi Hypervisor to the latest using ESXCLI for easy download and install | TinkerTry IT @ Home . Also I installed the correct ARECA VIB which I got for my controller from https://www.areca.com.tw/support/downloads.html.

The installation of the VIB looked fine:

esxcli software vib install -v /vmfs/volumes/SSD/scsi-arcmsr-1.40.00.09-1OEM.550.0.0.1331820.x86_64.vib

Installation Result

   VIBs Removed: areca_bootbank_scsi-arcmsr_1.30.00.03-1OEM.550.0.0.1331820

   VIBs Skipped:

However, in the webinterface I can see the adapter, but I can not create a new datastore:

I also had a look at /dev/disk on the shell, no sight of the RAID 10 I created on the ARECA Controller:

I am not using VMWare certified Hardware, however, I already have other server running slightly different hardware with ESXI 6.0 and 6.5 and also a different range of AREAC Controllers (e.g. 1224) and hadnt any big problems so far. But right now I am out of ideas.

Any suggestions? Also, if you need any more information, feel free to ask.

ESXi 6.7 Performance graphs only show the last few minutes

This is my second install of ESXi 6.7 U1 and I'm seeing the same problem. The performance monitoring graph on the host and on individual VMs only shows the last few minutes, no matter how long it has been up. This is the case with all counters (CPU/Network/Memory/Disk). Screenshots attached. Running the free license. I have tried restarting hostd, running with/without NTP, and, obviously, a full re-install. Any suggestions?

DL380 G7 stuck loading at vmkibft loaded

Hi,

I have an old DL380 G7 on which I have run an SPP update from April this year, and runs Bios P67.

This model is listed on the HCL for old version like 5.0 and 5.5, including 6.0 plus updates.

I have installed on a USB key and am trying to boot (same happens for the installer), but the boot just gets stuck on "vmkibft loaded successfully"

Am at a loss on why this is getting stuck here, and looking for some guidance.

Have also tried ensuring the inbuilt raid controller has no default volumes set for boot.

Cheers

Distributed Switch Question

$

Hi, i have a VDS that i have created and pushed to 3 hosts in a VSAN Cluster, all hosts are showin in this VDS and the VDS has no physical uplinks.

I have then created a port group on the VDS and added in a single NIC from 4 VM's all on different hosts in the cluster, however only when 2 VM's are on the same host can they see each other if i have a VM1 on Host 1 and a VM2 on Host 2 they can't see each other only if i have a VM3 and VM4 both on H2 for example can they see each other....

Everything looks fine but i dont see how the VM's could ever see each other without a physical NIC somewhere linking them and their hosts, that said i want it to be a port group that only these VM;s can access isolated from any other network like a vSwitch with no uplinks on a single host.

This is my working VDS:

1.png

Works as expected as i have Physical uplinks in there

This is my non working vDS:

2.png

Not working as expected - no physical uplinks

However if i wanted a port group just for internal VMs within the cluster would i have to just create a port group on the first picture and then use VLAN's to segregate my traffic, is there a way to stretch an uplink-less vDS across multiple hosts in a cluster?

I almost dont want the VM's to have ANY interaction with the physical network.

Pinned icons disappearing from VDI Profiles

Hi All,

Users are reporting that pinned icons are disappearing from their VDI profiles.

They usually resolve it by repinning but checking the settings, cannot seem to find the root cause.

Running Vmware Horizon 6.

Apologies, new to this so would provide more detail if required.

It's not affecting any particular farm or pool of machines, so cannot limit down to an exact host/session as users are spread across different hosts/pools.

Would love any input.

Thanks

disk consolidation - modifica configurazione VM

$

Buongiorno community,

Grazie,

Alex.
