VMware 6.5

After updating my vCenter 6.5 when I try to vmotion it to another host I only see the host it is listed on. All other hosts are not visible.

I need to move it to another host so I can update that host.

I have two vCenters and both are doing the same

Any ideas?

I can vmotion other machines only the vcenter appliance is the problem here

Thank you

Tom

How to avoid Split Brain in a stretched Cluster

$

Hello,

i am searching the internet for an answer... but i am stuck.

What we have and whats happened.

We have a cluster with 4 hosts.

2 on side A and 2 on side B

2 dark fibre between A and B

The hosts are connected to a network with 3 physical adapters and connected to the storage via 4 FC HBA to a DataCore Cluster

What was happened ? The 2 dark fibre were cut by ???

So we see 2 hosts disconnected - 50% VMs disconnected (looking vsphere server on side A)

I could connect to a backdoor to Side B and open the website of the esxi hosts and see, that the 50 % (the disconnected ones from side A) VMs are runinng fine.

So i shut down the VMs on side B, removed the disconnected hosts on side A and register the disconnected VMs, power Up.

So - thats not a good solution.

How can we manage this, that one side will shutdown the remaining running VMs and the other side will power up these ?

ESXi 6 Create vm fail with "Reconfigure failed: vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault" exception

Hello,

I begin to use Vcenter (version 6) and ESXI (version 6) a few days ago, I met a problem while I am testing to use vcenter (vmware driver) as backend of Openstack. When I am creating a vm ( I followed the doc like this "NovaVMware/DeveloperGuide - OpenStack " ), the vm status is ERROR. I traced the code to lower layer of Openstack, I found ESXI throw the Exception "vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault", while the vm is creating. I found the log on ESXI host (hostd.log), I pasted the log directly below (but I do not know if it is enough info to locate the problem). I have limited knowledge on ESXI right now, and I am not quite know what is going on.

anyone can help me with this problem, why is it failed? or is there any docs I should refer? I am trying to learning ESXi from start.

thank you very much in advance.

Esxi 6 startup with host - disabled

$

I've configured the startup/shutdown with the host for each VM. While I can configure settings for shutdown and order - for each machine - the startup is "disabled".

When I simulate a power-out (i.e, UPS reaches low battery) the host shutdown but the machines (VMs) are not being gracefully shutdown. It is just the host being shutdown.

My impression is that the "startup/shutdown with host" is somehow disabled?

The vmware tools are installed on each machine.

This is a small implementation and so not part of a cluster.

Any help on how to enable the shutdown with host would be appreciated.

Outlook 2016 and Acrobat Reader DC

So I have been wrestling with this little issue for a while and figure i would throw it out there

Envirometn

Horizon: 7.5.1

UEM 9.4

Appstacks 2.14

Windows 10 LTSB 2016

I have adobe acrobat reader dc installed on the GM.  I then load office 365 from the appstacks.  If i open outlook and try to open a .pdf, it works the first few times.  Then after that I get a failed to load core .dll.  This only happens from Outlook.  If i preview the file in outlook it works just fine.  If i save it and then open it, works just fine, if i change it over to google chrome to be the default pdf viewer, works just fine.  I have tried all of the fixes from the adobe site of the house, registry fixes for protected mode do not seem to help.

I should just let it be and keep telling them to use chrome or save it then open it, but i figured maybe i can shut the complainer up.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Network settings Wifi bridge issues

Hi everyone,

Thanks for this thousands and thousands of answers in this community. I am new into this, and I am glad to be part of it.

Recently I have updated my Mac Book pro 15 to Mojave, and I am using VMWare Fusion Pro 10.1.0 with Windows 7 guest.

I had no problems with this before, but after this update I am having some, at least, curious network issues.

I have the VMWare setup as a network bridge (Autodetect), and there is no problem if I am using a wired connection with the host, but I have no connection if the host is using Wi-Fi to access to the network. I have checked the Privacy/Security settings in the Mac, and also the firewall settings. No way.

If the setting is NAT ot Autodetect with wired connection I have no issues.

The guest is configured as DHCP. When I have the issue, the guest can't access to the DHCP server, the ping is not responding as well, event if I am do it with the host address.

Any suggestion?

thanks in advance

Any idea how to resolve this? I've attached the screenshot of error message.

There are somethings that is still somethings that seems miserable to me because I'm still a novice on them. I have installed VMware Workstation and I did all I could, only to arrive at the stage where I have to load up the ISO and I discovered it a VMDK file that I have to attach. Well, I don't know how to go about extracting/converting a VMDK file. Someone should try and help me with this. I am dying to experience what it looks like to run a MacOS on Windows.

One Disk (VMDK) slow performance in Windows Server 2016 VM

Hi @ all,

I got a performance Issue on a Server 2016 VM on an ESX 6.7

There are 2 Disks configured. 1st with 70GB for the System - the 2nd with 3TB for Files.

If I copy files inside the VM to the C:\ Drive (70GB), I have copy speeds around 110MB/s (More is not possible because of the Network)

But if i copy files to the D:\ Drive (3TB), I only get 2-8MB/s.

Both disks are on the same datastore and configured the same way (same SCSI controller, Thick-Lazy etc.)

The 3 TB VMDK was copied via VMWare Converter from another ESX 6.7 (Server 2008R2 VM) to this host and just mounted to this Server 2016 VM, so that all NTFS Permissions are still available.

I don't know why the performance on this copied disk is so bad. On the old VM it works perfectly.

Please help.

Thank you

Change Machine Certificate VCSA

Good morning everyone!

I know there´re many threads with this topic but i couldnt find a answer for my question.

We´ve got a VCSA vCenter with 7 hosts.

I need to change the certificate from the VCSA (cause of an audit... if we connect to the vCenter there shouldnt be a waring because of the VM certificate)

If´ve read a lot of How-To´s and things like (VMware Knowledge Base) but there´s one question (or maybe 2 )

If I replace the Machine certificate from the VCSA (Option 1 @ Certificate-manager) do I need to change the certificates for the ESXi Hosts too?

Maybe you guys could assist

kind regards from austria

Migration from VMware 5.5 to 6.5

$

Hi,

are the steps to migrate from 5.5 to 6.5 with non-stop clustering?

Only with HA, without DRS.

It is?

1 - Install new vCenter 6.5

2 - Create datacenter;

3 - Create cluster;

4 - Add host A in version 5.5 in the vCenter 6.5 cluster;

5 - Add host B in version 5.5 in the vCenter 6.5 cluster;

6 - Install Update Manager;

7 - Import ISO to Update Manager;

8 - Migrates servers from host A to host B;

9 - Put host A on maintenance;

10 - Apply new version via Update Manager on host A;

11 - Remove host A from maintenance;

11 - Migrate servers from host B to host A already with the new version;

12 - Place host B in maintenance;

13 - Apply new version via Update Manager on host B;

14 - Remove host B from maintenance;

15 - Balancing servers between hosts.

Thank you.
