Hello,

I would like to configure our host system, so that the VMs on the host will shutdown automatically if the host getting shutdown, but on the next start of host system VMs should stay down.

I read official documentation here Edit Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown Settings in the vSphere Web Client.

These settings do the VMs on the host getting shutdown its super, but I don't see any choice to deactivate the automatic startup.

My questions:

  is it possible?

  how can i do this?

Our system:

ESXi 5.5

VMware vCenter Server Appliance Version 5.5 of VC running on SLES 11

Finding vmkernel interface in use

Hi All,

Here is my scenario where I need some help.  We have a legacy Vmkernel interface for storage and a newly created one.  I'd like to retire
the legacy vmkernel interface but my storage team is telling me something is still utilizing it.  How can I run a report against
all my datastores to show which vmkernel interface is establishing the connectivity?

Thanks.

Access vCenter through public IP-Address

Hi there!

I just deployed the vCenter Appliance. Now I want to connect from anywhere to it. The problem is I can't use a VPN connection to do so.

So I tried to use port forwarding instead. I now it isn't the most secure way to do so but it's just for demonstration and has no productive use or even confidential data on it.

When I connect to vCenter using my public IP I'm getting to the "first steps" page. When I click on the link which should bring me to the vSphere Web Client it'll try to connect to the local IP which isn't right because I will do this on another network.

Is it somehow possible to change the IP it tries to connect to?

Thank you in advance!

When I click "Import Windows XP Mode VM" then click Import, it says "Failed to import Windows XP Mode" with no following explanation.

My Windows XP Mode has been installed correctly and I've also tried to reinstall the vmware-player but nothing changes.

Windows Integrated authentication issue with vCSA 6.5 and Powercli 6.5.4

Hi there

I haven't done much with powercli over last few years so please excuse ignorance.

I have vCSA 6.5 and installed the latest powercli from the gallery.

I have been given some scripts to modify which are supposed to run weekly via scheduled task.

They are currently not working and it seems it is due to credentials not being passed through.

I have verified that when I connect manually from the cli the integration is not working and I get prompted for the credentials.

Any idea as why this could be? My SSO has the domain we use set WIA and it is set to default.

It seems this can be worked around with import-clixml but if there is an out of the box solution I'd like to hear

Cheers

Poor All Flash vSAN Performance

Hello,

I have build a All Flash vSAN at my home, however my performance is less than expected. I am seeing 35k IOPS when running a Proactive Test - Stress Test.

The hosts are:

3x Dell PE R720 2x 2690 Xeon 192GB RAM

LSI 9207-8i

Brocade 1020 NICs connected to Brocade ICX 7450 10Gbe

2 Disk Groups in each host 2x Intel S3700 400GB and 6x S3500 480GB

ESXi 6.5 U1 loaded from Dell ISO

Does this seem right to you guys? At work I built a similar 4 node cluster on Lenovo nodes and I see 125k IOPS using the same test. Only difference is my vSAN at home only has about 2TB free of 8TB, while the cluster at work has nothing on it. I understand I have VMs running at home, but not 90k worth of I/O!

Any advice or input is appreciated.

Horizon client 4.6.0 on Linux Mint: says libusbRedirectionClient.so is missing but it's not

Freshly installed 4.6.0 (32bit) connects to the remote server correctly.  When I launch the "desktop pool" a normal black fullscreen appears (as it normally does for a moment), but then after a few seconds the desktop pool reappears and there's no session with the remote VM.

The logs (which I can't begin to interpret) show that the point of failure is marked by the message "VDPUsbRedirectionVmdb_Init: failed to open plugin file /usr/lib/vmware/view/vdpService/libusbRedirectionClient.so: /usr/lib/vmware/view/vdpService/libusbRedirectionClient.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".  This is puzzling, because

  1. USB redirection is not configured on this client.  I excluded it at the initial setup.
  2. That libusbRedirectionClient.so file exists, in exactly that specified position!

Any suggestions on how to debug this?

Another puzzling aspect of this--and I can't even see how this is relevant--is that this machine build is copied directly from another one, with just the hostname and associated addresses changed.  The "source" image works perfectly on the original machine.  This "cloning" process works flawlessly for 64-bit clients which are built in exactly the same way.

PCoIP bandwidth policy

Hello,

I’m having some problems setting policies to manage bandwidth. I have attempted to import admx policies for PCoIP into UEM and set max bandwidth which didnt work. Tried doing the same using GPO that also did not work. I confirmed that the registry setting exist on the desktops but when running perfmon the max limit is not displayed and I’m able to exceed the max limit specified in the GPO. I’m trying to set these settings for users and not computer. Setting the computer based setting through GPO work. We are using Horizon 7.2 and UEM 9.2.

Thanks

Shutdown Problem

Hi everyone

I wonder if this issue was already discussed here or not also I hope it's the appropriate place to ask.

I installed a new win xp pro sp3 in vmware using an original untouched "win xp iso"

I update windows with all updates, installed antivirus and my programs and everything

I used sysprep then saved the whole image using ghost then I installed it in another computer

The setup was fine everything installed fine.

The only problem is in shutdown.

When I hit > Start > Shutdown in the new installed computer it does not shuts down but instead it reboots again

Thanks for any comments, hints and help.

CephFS Vsphere NFS failover question

Hay All

Sorry if this in the wrong place.

I am using an cephfs storage back end to store my VM info on my one node esxi servers testbed environment.

I have linked the two (ceph and esxi server) using NFS 4.1 as i want to add failover, i have two NFS servers set up, linking to the cephfs and added the NFS to the esxi as nfs 4.1 with both ip address.

I have found two problems i am trying to get my head around

1) when i try to do an fail over (shutdown one server), the Datastore shows as (inactive) and does not switch over to the other server

2) Due to problem 1 i powered the server back up and can see the server is live and is accepting NFS connections but Vsphere is still showing the Datastore as (inactive) and only getit working by destroying the datastore and recreating it.

If i set up the datastore as an NFS 3, and run the same test, the fail over still dont happen (as NFS 3 dont support it) but when i turn on the server again the datastore starts working.

Am i doing something wrong with my set up, with the failover/mutilepath

move master image to new datastore

Hello, We need to move our Master/Gold images from one datastore to another.  My plan was to just svmotion the master image to another datastore.

Will View be smart enough to just work, or will i need to do anything after the move such as pointing the pool to the snapshot again?

The Snapshots do come over in the svmotion so im hoping there is nothing to do

We are using Linked Clones.

We have Horizon View version 6.24

vSphere version 5.5u3

Thanks

Network / Shared Folders issue

$

Hey all,

Sorry for the long read, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible.

I have a strange issue. The host is Win 10 x64, the guest vm is the same. I'm using the latest version of VMware Workstation as of this writing, including all updates, as well as a fully re-installed VMTools, just to rule that out as well.

My problem is, I can't reliably access shared folders between the 2. Sometimes it works, often it does not; with no networking changes whatsoever in between.

For example, last night, I wanted to use Beyond Compare (BC) to mirror some folders/files to my VM, so I went into my VM, opened Explorer (browser), clicked on the Network node (seems I always HAVE to do this on both machines first, or it won't recognize folder shares? That's problem 1.) Enumerated the shared folders, did the same on the Host, at that time I was able to browse shares on both the guest and host. So I opened BC, setup the folders to mirror from the Host to the Guest, started (some 400K files), and about halfway through, it was like the guest stopped allowing access anymore, and half of the files being transferred errored out.

Ever since then, I can only get the guest VM to access the folders shared on the host, but not vice-versa; the Host can't access the guest anymore, no matter how many times I try to refresh the Network nodes in Explorer on both sides. Again, I can access the host shares all day long (at the moment, but that often randonly acts wonky as well), but since I can't "see" the guest VM folders, I can't do a sync with BC anymore.

When I use Explorer and click Refresh, it LISTS the VM guest, but, when I click it to try to access it, it shows this every time:

REALLY frustrating. Anyone have any solution?

Share host's local storage

Is it possible to mount hosts' local storage to other hosts sort of like vSAN. I've been trying to do so for the last couple of days and I can't make it work. :/ I have no problems mounting a host's networked (NFS, iSCSI) storage to other hosts but I can't find the way to do it with its own storage. I about to complete the 350-page PDF on vSphere Storage and they mention it but it's unclear regarding to local storage. [the process of] Creating a storage cluster does make mention of adding storage that's accesible from all hosts (networked) but doesn't explain how to get there, the help button on the latest version of vCenter no longer links to a related help article but to the help portal itself and the HTML5 version doesn't even have all the settings the latter has. ☹️

Thanks for any advice you could offer, even if it is to give up.

com.vra.reservations.getReservationsForUserAndComponent throwing 404 error when more than 12 subTenants vRA/vRO 7.3

$

I'm trying to run the com.vra.reservations.getReservationsForUserAndComponent action and it seems to blow up when I give it more than 12 subTenants.  I don't know if it has to do with the size of the filter that gets created or something along those lines.  I'm currently getting around this by creating my own action and looping through each subTenant and doing a single query.  I haven't tried testing this directly against the vRA api but if someone could investigate this it would be great. We have 28 subTenants in our environment that our service account has access to so this will always explode on us out of the box and I'd think the same in most larger deployments.

Get VCVM from VM Name

I have a situation in which I have the name value of the VM in which I need to return the vCACVM object.  I have found a solution that seems to be working, but wonder if there is a better way to achieve the same outcome.

As a side note, I am hoping someone would be able to provide a brief explanation on the substringof() eq "true" found in the code. I understand it is attempting to match the value supplied in vmName, and match it to the value being found in VirtualMachineName and if it returns true, that is the vCACVM I am looking for.  I guess I am looking for a bit deeper understanding of the method, and perhaps some accompanying documentation explaining why it was available for use inside of Server.findAllForType().

Solution was derived from: https://communities.vmware.com/message/2622002#2622002.

Inputs:

     vmName(string)

Attributes:

     vcaccafehost(VCACCAFE:VCACHost)

Code:

var vm= Server.findAllForType("vCAC:VirtualMachine", "substringof('" + vmName + "',VirtualMachineName) eq true")

System.log("vCACObj: " + vm);

UserVars.SuppressCoredumpWarning not working

$

Version: ESX 6.5 5969303 and 6765664

I do not have core dumps configured and I do not want to do this at this stage.

I have set the value UserVars.SuppressCoredumpWarning to 1 and this makes the error go away but when the host is rebooted the error returns even though the UserVars.SuppressCoredumpWarning value is still set to 1.

I have 4 hosts and they all have the exact same behaviour.

Can anyone assist here?  Is this a bug that needs fixing?

Thanks,

Ben

Can Newer VMware Tool Versions Be Installed that are Newer than what Originally Ships?

Thanks for reading,

I've been troubleshooting a network performance problem on RH 6 hosts. The VMware tools that are installed on the ESXi host are two years old or even older. For example, the current version is: 10240 esx/5.5ep10 10.0.0 3568722.

Is it possible to install VMware tools for: 10249  esx/5.5p11  10.0.9 6480324

The versions are from: https://packages.vmware.com/tools/versions

Thank you,

General Distributed Switch Question

$

I am starting a project where i want to move away from VSS to VDS.  However I have a few questions.

On a host that has (2) dual 10GB NIC in each host.

Currently I have in the VSS setup 2 uplinks for Data and 2 uplinks for everything else.  With using vDS is it best to keep those separate or can it handle that traffic with vlan tagging?

If I keep them together I would use the 4 NIC and LACP them together, but if they need to be separate then I would have to design it another way.  Just looking for input.  Thanks in advance.
