Hi everyone, as I write this weeks newsletter it is Memorial Day in the USA. I want to share my wishes to everyone on this day. I have been spending a bit more time with our NSX network virtualization solution. This is a fascinating solution that I hope to learn more about in the future and intend on taking a course.

This week the featured TAM Blog post is on how TAMs can work for their customers to motivate for enhancements to existing VMware solutions. This is always a really great win for everyone involved, while it takes some effort to do this on both sides the outcome if managed correctly can significantly help our customers.

Anyone seen this error and do you know how to fix it?

ManagedObjectReference: type = VirtualMachine, value = vm-988, serverGuid = 2841d00e-bd5a-487b-8ce9-59736ed0bfc4 refers to a managed object that no longer exists or has never existed.

HTTP transport error: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException

I get it randomly when selecting vm's in vCenter 6.  We're using the appliance with self signed certs (which i personally think is contributing to the problem but am not sure how to prove that.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Until recently, we had VDP 5.8.0 up and running here. (It was a 5.5.x before, upgraded to 5.8.)

Now I noticed that there already is 5.8.4 and wanted to upgrade to it. The upgrade ISO showed up as incompatible, so I guessed I needed to make smaller steps.

I upgraded our 5.8.0 to 5.8.1 without problems.

I also upgraded the 5.8.1 to 5.8.3 without problems.

The pre-upgrade kernel uprgade and glibc patch are both installed.

But the upgrade ISO for 5.8.4 still shows up as "The connected upgrade ISO image is incompatible.". What do I need to do to upgrade to 5.8.4?

I have an ESX server  running.

My 10GBE don't show I cannot create a VMkernel the system does have t he ixgbe driver loaded,  Am I missing anything I didnt really find anything in regards to this besides making sure the driver was loaded and that the NIC is compatible.

After moving my virtual machine to a different location, I got problems with guest resolution. It was OK before moving. Resolution should be 1920x1200 in full screen mode, but all I can choose from is in xrandr report:

VMware tools are installed, reinstalled, reconfigured, 3D acceleration disabled and enabled, etc. I was trying to add resolution manually too but I simply get a black screen. I have now idea what should I do next.

Does anyone have any idea what went wrong?

System:

Host: Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Guest: Elementary OS 0.3.2 (Ubuntu 14.04 base) (with 4GB RAM, 4 cores, 3D enabled, 768MB of video memory)

Hi all,

We are having problems instantiating an IWA Active Directory on a third tenant in vRA 7.0.1, which uses the same settings we set on the previous two. Our tenants are as follows:

1. vsphere.local (Default Tenant)

2. POC Tenant A

3. POC Tenant B

We created the the AD bindings on both the Default Tenant and POC Tenant A with the same values. They have the same Directory Name, Sync Connector, Authentication, Directory Search Attribute, and Bind Details. Both the Default Tenant and POC Tenant A are syncing to AD properly and users can interact with the product using their native AD accounts and groups.

We then created POC Tenant B and tried to setup the directory with the same settings. Prior to this, no configurations were made against POC Tenant B. After clicking submit, we receive the error "Unable to Activate the Connector." We clicked cancel, looked at the Identity Providers tab and saw that nothing was created. We then went into the Connectors tab and saw that there is a Connector in place, but it only lists out the host name value (which matches Default Tenant and Tenant A) but it doesn't have a worker, IP, Auth method, etc populated. We then tried to recreate the directory again, but under a different name. The first time we did this, it created the directory object but did not fully instantiate the IDP. We attempted to change the IDP to match the settings of the other two tenants, but doing so made both the IDP and the Directory object disappear from the GUI. Now, anytime we click the Directories tab on Tenant B we receive a "Internal Server Error" banner. Now anytime we try creating the directory, we receive the "Unable to Activate the Connector" error.

To me, it seems like there is some kind of contention issue in the Postgres. I'm thinking it's trying to create the same IDP and Connector but is trying to use the same values and is throwing some kind of Primary Key violation. I tried looking at the various logs in /var/log/vmware/horizon on the appliance, but haven't really found anything that strikes out.

Has anyone experience this issue before?

I need to find the virtual machine last modified date so that we can find the user is using that VM or not.

My VM's contain snapshot can we get powershell.

We have a few Configurations Elements (CE) where we've we've created some wrong composite types attributes. Even though those attribute(s) of type CompositeType (CT) that ware wrongly defined has been removed, the old/wrong CT is still showing up when we click to select an attributes type in the CE.

How do I get rid of the old CTs?

USB - Windows Password Unlocker

The original problem seemed simple enough: Lenovo desktop Windows 8.1 PC with a forgotten admin password, needs resetting.

Sourced a suitable reset tool (WPU), made the flash drive using my guest OS in VMware

returned to site. But not for a love of trying, I could not, would not, get it to boot from the USB attached to the desktop PC!

After limited research (as the Internet connection was offline on site that day) it seemed to have a protected BIOS: that shuts off the ability to boot from USB or allow alternate boot methods (but don't quote me)

so I removed the hard drive...

Back to the safety of my 10.10.5 (Yosemite) iMac and a working Internet connection, I discover how to boot VMware from USB (thanks to Plop Boot Manager) and I test the Windows Password Unlocker USB on my Windows 8.1 guest OS.

HUZZAH!

Attached the physical disk via USB drive dock to my VMware Fusion, using the Bootcamp Guest option, it boots fine!

BUT I just cannot get it to change the boot sequence to anything other than the physical drive

If I create a new Guest and test it, then change its boot method to Plop it works fine, every time!

I just cannot get THIS Boot Camp guest to go via the plop image, iso OR bootable USB

any advice appreciated

添付している図のように、仮想マシンにvNICを複数配備し、それぞれのvNICに別のポートグループを割り当てようとしていますが

図の通りに設定が反映されません。

＜環境＞

環境：VMwareハンズオンラボ(HOL-SDC-1610)

設定環境：Web Client

OS：CentOS 6.6

仮想スイッチ：標準スイッチ(2つ)

ポートグループ：スイッチ毎に1つのポートグループ

＜事象＞

事象は複数あります。（それぞれの設定で差異がある部分はOS側のネットワーク設定のみです。）

１．仮想マシンの設定でvNIC毎に別のポートグループに割り当てを行ったが、トポロジーを確認すると片方のポートグループにしか

　仮想マシンが表示されない。

　一度別のメニューを選択するなどして表示を切り替えると、設定したポートグループに「仮想マシン(1)」と表示されるが

　片方のポートグループのみ、▲を開くと仮想マシンが表示されず仮想マシン(0)」となってしまう。

　また、pingテスト(第4オクテットを4、5とします)の結果、以下のような動作になります。

　　①4の疎通はOK、5の疎通はNG。

　　②4のvNICをコマンドで停止する。(ifconfig eht0 down)

　　③5の疎通が通るようになる。

　上記の結果から「両方のvNICは別のポートグループに紐づいているが、同時に使用できない」といった事象が起こっていると

　考えています。

２．１のping結果で、4と5それぞれ疎通は通るのですが、片方のポートグループにVLANを設定すると、両方とも疎通が通らなく

　なってしまいます。また、仮想マシンの再起動を行うと、今度は両方とも疎通が通ってしまいます。

　上記の結果から「複数のvNICが片方のポートグループに紐づいている」と考えています。

＜設定内容＞

１．標準スイッチ0、1を作成

２．標準スイッチ0に仮想マシンポートグループ０を作成

　　標準スイッチ1に仮想マシンポートグループ１を作成

３．仮想マシンのネットワークアダプタ１つ目に「仮想マシンポートグループ0」を割り当て

　　仮想マシンのネットワークアダプタ２つ目に「仮想マシンポートグループ1」を割り当て

　　（アダプタはVMXNET3を使用）

４．ネットワークトポロジーを確認すると以下のように表示される

　　仮想マシンポートグループ0：仮想マシン(1)

　　仮想マシンポートグループ1：仮想マシン(1)

５．どちらか一方の▲を開き、詳細を確認しようとすると、以下のように表示される

　　仮想マシンポートグループ0：仮想マシン(1)

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　→　BA01(仮想マシン名)

　　仮想マシンポートグループ1：仮想マシン(0)

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　→　何も表示されない

６．OSのネットワーク設定は以下のようにしています。

WebClient上の設定では、仮想マシンのアダプタにポートグループを指定するだけですので、問題はOSの設定にあると考えておりますが

それにしても、vNICにポートグループを紐づける設定はしているのにトポロジーには片方しか反映されないのがOSの原因とは考えにくい

ところです。

単純な設定だと思っていたので、こんなにハマるとは思っていませんでした。。。原因が全くわからず、非常に困っております。

どなたか同様の事象をご存知の方はご教示頂けますよう、よろしくお願いいたします。

Running fusion pro 8.1.1 with a windows 7 Enterprise 64bit guest.

I have Cisco anyconnect client v3.1.13015 on the windows 7. The anyconnect failed to connect if I have windows 7 using NAT for networking. It works fine when using bridge mode. So if there any setting I should tweak? The anyconnect VPN works however it is really slow, like 30-sec to load a HTTPS internal site. If I do the same on a physical Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 machine, the same HTTPS page loads immediately. Does not make any difference if I use bridge OR NAT for the network setting. Ideas?

I have seen the release notes for ESXi Update 2, and it looks great! The only problem is: the latest version I see when I go to the Download page is Update 1. I found the link to the Update 2 download page, but when I go to download it, I get the following error:

"You either are not entitled or do not have permissions to download this product."

I have a computer with our business software with real time data insert and modify.

I cant stop my computer in business time to make any modification in software, and best time to do it we have no data coming.

There is any way i could replicate one entire day use of mine computer and use it in vmware, as was recorded?

We are going to migrate all servers from one AD to Another. And I´m looking at the migration plan for vCenter Servers. What is the best way to migrate those to the new domain? We could do a fresh install in the new domain and just detach db from old domain and attach the databases to SQL in the new domain, and what is pros/cons of that?..

use case:

we have a VSAN 6.2 cluster which we want to monitor with our vROPs 6.2.0 instance

therefore I installed the MPSD 6.0.4 and configured the adapter. The credentials I gave the adapter to pull all needed data from vCenter have read only right in vCenter. According to the user guide of MPSD this is not sufficient:

Verify that the following conditions are met: Read-only credentials are not adequate to connect and collect data from the vCenter Server and fabric CIM servers. You must provide credentials with sufficient privileges. If the user account has limited access to objects in vCenter and the fabric CIM server, you can only collect data from objects for which you have permission.

Further more the adapter log of vROps shows errors like the following:

I am running linux kernel 4.6 w/ gcc 6.1.1

Is there a way to get workstation 12.1.1. installed on my system with this kernel and gcc version? Can anyone help me with this?

The bundle installs without issue but if I try to run it says cannot find compatible gcc looking for 5.3.1.

Really did not want to go back to 5.3.1 was wondering if anyone knew how to get it working with 6.1
