Hello community,
How are you all? I hope you are fine
I tried to install VMWare Player 7 and therefore uninstalled the older version. Now I have the issue, that the error above shows up and the logs read as follow:

I am running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate with SP 1 installed.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Note: I had to do a full repair of my OS a few weeks ago with the Windows 7 64bit Ultimate SP1 installation disk. This should not have such an effect.
By the way, when I try to install 6.0.3 I get this message:
Best regards,
T
PS: Already uninstalled my AV as well as disabled Defender. No other AV or similar tool was running. No change in behaviour. VMware Player 5.5 installs ok, but cannot update. Also VMWare Workstation has this issue and forced installation gives the uninstall error "The MSI '' failed." No suggestion works here. Removed also all entries from the registry and from the file system. It appears I either miss something, or there is a flag somewhere unrelated to "VMware" something in the system hidden.
PPS: I am full Administrator.
I would like to set up the above RAID card controller but cannot find VIB file to inject in ESXI iso. Could somebody recommend a VIB that can be added for the card to work with ESXI 5.5. When I add the card without a VIB it sends the esxi into a non working state. I have found adaptec vib but not for what I need.
Work around....
I would like a hardware raid controller to cover virtual machine os and vmdk points data but if thats not possible could I create snapshots of this and in case of failure apply snapshot to recreate all of the data without hardware raid onto a fresh ssd.
For actual datastorage within virtual machines movies music etc I can use software raid offered.
I don't want to be in a situation where everything works fine until a disk failure and all the data is gone. So looking for advice from more experienced users.
Привет! Собственно и возник вопрос по этому поводу...
Как установить гостевую ОС с флешки? Или такого не предусмотрено?
Hi
I am using a static OVF property of type 'password' in my virtual appliance.
Though we have an option to validate the password length using MinLength/Maxlength, I am not sure how to do more complex/custom validations.
For instance, is it possible to validate based on custom criteria such as following?
- Enforce at least one numeric or alphabet
- Allow certain special characters but not others
Are there any other ways this could be achieved?
Thanks

Hi,
1- I would like to know which is the benefit of using a VXLAN (VTEP) Capable swith attaching the NSX world, that cannot support OVSDB Protocol?
2- Is correct that the NSX controllers will not be able to talk to him, so I will not be able to be used as a gateway?
3- Which is going to be the difference between using a switch that doesn't support VXLAN than another one that does (but not OVSDB) ?
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
J
Since NSX is essentially on overlay, and wraps the original frame with an external header, does that not leave all network traffic vulnerable to packet sniffers?
In other words,: A VLAN routes between one port (or Port Group) and another. Clients of that VLAN have no way to "see" or sniff traffic outside the VLAN - they have no perception of its existance at all.
But wouldn't physical (non dvSwitch-connected) clients of the leaf/spine architecture be able to see everything if inclined to do so?
Hi,
I have deployed the NSX 6.1.1 VM and registered a vCenter (5.5) - both the Lookup Service and the vCenter Server sections are showing as green and registered in the NSX Web UI. However I can't see the Networking and Security tab in vSphere Web Client. I have logged out/back in, restarted both, re-deployed NSX, but no luck
Has anyone seen this before or is there something I am missing?
Thanks!
I have read every post I can find related to this and I've tried other searching as well, I have done dozens of experiments and cannot get the Invoke-VMScript command to work
I get this "unable to connect to the remote server" every single time. I know I have the correct password and login, I have Power CLI 5.8r1, I am on win 7 enterprise service pack 1
I have other commands working correctly and I *need* this to finish customizing my hosts-- my only other choice is to edit the kickstart files on my iso and that is a hassle.
I have the vmware tools installed and am trying this on linux CentOS 6.6.
invoke-VMscript -ScriptText 'ls' -VM test-appliance --GuestUser root -GuestPassword 'dontpullhair'
please give me something else to try !
thanks!
I recently had someone ask me what my thoughts were on Nexus 1000v. I have deployed this in the past at L2. I liked that it brought back some control and visibility from the Network Admin standpoint. I told them that I felt that I would not implement this and if they were looking they could gain all the benefits of a 1000v with NSX or possibly a Cisco ACI implementation. However, as I pointed out they have VMware so the direction to NSX would be an easier one since it does not require any specialized virtualization aware switches like Cisco. Anyway, I was curious if anyone else has deplyed the 1000v switch in their environment. If so, what is your experience and would you deploy that currently or go with NSX or ACI?
Hi,
I am customizing an OVF template XML by adding OVF properties. I have a few questions related to validating the properties.
1) If a property doesn't succeed the validation test (say, it falls short of a MinLength check), then I see a red warning right below the field (while deploying the OVF in a vCenter). But the user is still able to proceed and click Submit. Is there a way to stop the user from proceeding when any validation criteria is not met?
2) One of my OVF properties is an FQDN and I am looking for a way to validate the format of the FQDN. I want it to be of the format (hostprefix + domain name). Is there is a way to do so?
Thanks,
Sabareeswar
Hello all,
I am setting up NSX and I'm running into an odd issue where the enumeration of the distributed logical routers and edge services gateways that I create. When I create new instances, the enumeration is off, presumably because of other instances I have previously deleted. Is there a way to get NSX to restart the enumeration of the edge ID's so it stays in line with the other edge IDs?
Attached is a quick png showing this:
I'm trying to get the following setup to work:
VM's in multiple subnets (logical switches) connected to the same DLR to perform east-west firewalling.
On the uplink of the DLR I have an Edge connected (transit) performing north-south firewalling.
So basically the Edge has 2 interfaces (Uplink for internet + Internal to the DLR).
Now I would like the edge to serve DHCP requests for the VM's.
I have DHCP relay configured on the DLR (to the Edge), yet when I enter the DHCP scopes (subnets) in the Edge it states that it needs interfaces connected to the given subnets.
Is this by design? Can DHCP relay only work to external DHCP servers?
I noticed there was a relatively current open source download package for VMware Studio, so I downloaded it, hoping there were instructions on applying the new software to the appliance. The download was a tar.gz file, which appears to include source code for those OSS packages.
So, I am concluding that my hope that this was an update to VMware Studio was unfounded.
Is there any news, at all, about plans to update VMware Studio? It is obvious that a VMware-internal tool exists as they use it to create their own appliances which appear to have fixed some issues, such as IE10 access.
Thanks Dan
Hello,
Based on the NSX Design Guide: “Each LIF has assigned an IP address representing the default IP gateway for the logical L2 segment it connects to and a vMAC address. The IP address obviously is unique per LIF, whereas the same vMAC is assigned to all the defined LIFs”
Testing this in the HOL labs, I started a ping from 172.16.10.11 -> 172.16.20.11. I configured a mirror port with source as app-sr-01a (172.16.20.11) (no tcpdump available on HOL web/app servers!). Looking at the MAC addresses on the packet "inside" the GRE encapsulated packet (refer to see snapshot below) I have few questions:
1. Where is the source MAC on the ICMP request packet 00:50:56:f1:f7:a2 coming from? What cli command would show this MAC address?
2. If each LIF will have the same vMAC, the “arp -an” output on the corresponding servers shows different MACs for 10.1 and 20.1 LIFs. Is this expected or a Nested lab thing or am I missing something?

I'm trying to delete or unmount a datastore but both are failing with below error messages.
UNMOUNT. - Out of the 5 hosts in cluster it is unmounted from 4 while it's still mounted on one host & gives below error
Call "HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume" for object "storageSystem-3994" on vCenter Server "xyz" failed.
Cannot unmount volume 'Datastore Name: abc VMFS uuid: 507978c7-f56a954c-b170-782bcb507614' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation.
DELETE - if trying to delete it's giving me below error.
Call "HostDatastoreSystem.RemoveDatastore" for object "datastoreSystem-3994" on vCenter Server "xyz" failed.
Cannot remove datastore 'Datastore Name: abc VMFS uuid: 507978c7-f56a954c-b170-782bcb507614' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation.
I browsed through the datastore, there's only folder named .vSphere-HA while if I check the datastore hearbeating in HA properties, this datastore is not a part of Datastore heartbeats as well.
Tried restarting mgmt services - Didn't work
Tried disabling HA & then deleting/unmounting datastore - Didn't work
Triedhttp://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2069171 - Didn't work
Rebooting the host would be last option, but I'm looking for a fix on this.
Hi,
I'm researching an NSX design for our company solution. The solution utilizes Cisco UCS Data Center infrastructure. According to the VMware best practice document that covers the Cisco Nexus 7k switches the controllers should reside with the Edge Gateway and DLR on the blades that sit behind the Fabric Interconnects.
Let say that the Management Cluster resides on a set of Cisco C220 rack mount servers that reside external from the Cisco UCS Chassis. The C220s are connected to a pair of Nexus 3k switches which in turn are connected to the Nexus 5k/9k switches. The ideal is placing NSX Manager and NSX Controller (Cluster) within the Management Cluster that will reside on the Cisco 220 rack mount servers. Then placing the Edge gateway and DLR VMs on the Edge Cluster that resides on a few blades that reside behind the Fabric Interconnects.
What are the benefits and limitations for keeping the NSX Controllers seperate from the Edge Gateway and DLR VMs that is three jumps between each other (Nexus 3ks, Nexus 5k/9ks, Fabric Interconnects?) I'm hearing that very little traffic will ingree and egress from the NSX Controller so it wouldn't be a neusance. Is this true? When VMs are first powered on the host send traffic to the NSX Controllers to lookup the IP in the ARP table. Is this dangerous scenario if booting up 1000 VMs at the same time? Shoud we consider keeping the NSX Controllers with the Edge Gatways and DLR VMs on the UCS Blades behind the Fabric Interconnects? We like the idea of keeping the NSX Controller with NSX Manager withint he Management Cluster for organizational puposes and saving additional resources for production.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy
