Help need with vCenter Installer

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as to what is causing my problem.I've recently built my own lab and I've managed to get the client installed and have configured a win 2012 server VM as my DC, DHCP, DNS etc and all seems to be working OK. I'm stuck however at the point of installing (on a separate Win2012 VM) the custom install of "Single Sign On, Web Client, Inventory, and vCenter Server. The first three went through smoothly but whilst installing vCenter Server and at the "linked mode options" section, I get the following message below when attempting to create a standalone vCenter server instance.

 

It seems to me that it's correctly joined to the domain and the DC is available but I'm stumped. I've read around for an answer and have tried changing all sorts with no luck. Can someone possible point me in the right direction as to how i can fix this.

vSphere 6.0 では、vSphere FT で保護する VM に

4 vCPU まで割り当てられるようになります。


FT Server とは、

2台のサーバを1台に見せることで障害対策をするものです。

基本的に、1台のサーバがダウンしてもサーバは無停止で稼働したままとなります。

これを VM で実現したのが、vSphere FT です。

2つの VM で FT 構成をとります。


ただ、vSphere 5.5 までは、FT を有効にしている VM には

1 vCPU しか割り当てられませんでした。

vSphere 6.0 からの FT は、SMP-FT と呼ばれ

FT を有効にしている VM に 4 vCPU まで 割り当てられるようになります。

※vSphere 5.5 までの FT は、「レガシー FT」と呼ばれ、vSphere 6.0 でもまだ利用可能なようです。

 

ちなみに、以前の FT でも同様ですが、プライマリ / セカンダリ VM はどちらも稼働しているため、

4 vCPU を割り当てる場合は、プライマリ / セカンダリ VM それぞれに 4 vCPU、

あわせて 8 vCPU の割り当てをする（そしてリソースも消費する）ことになります。

いままで 1 vCPU では性能不足かもしれないと思って断念にしていた

色々なサーバで、FT を有効化できそうです。

ただし、VM あたりの vCPU 数だけでなく、ESXi あたりの制限もあるため

すべてを FT 保護するというわけにはいかなそうです。

※ESXi あたりの制限として、FT を有効化できるのは 4 VM まで、使用できる vCPU は合計で 8 個までのようです。

 

個人的に、「vCenter Server Heartbeat」の代替とかにもならないかと期待しています・・・

Installation Error VMware 11, 64 bit error

I tryed to install

VMware 11 on a host, windows server 2008 / 64 bit:

I got a Error Message: no 64 bit system

Installation aborted

 

Vmware 10 is still working good on the same host

 

 

someone knows how i fix that?

Your desktop has been disconnected

Absolutely stumped on this one!

 

I'm running Horizon View 6.0.2 and have created a new full-clone desktop pool with only 1 desktop currently for testing. However, the second I try to connect via HTML access it fails and I recieve a message saying, "Your desktop has been diconnected, Unable to reconnect to desktop". I have ensured that the HTML component is enabled when installing the agent on the clone. I can also access it fine via the full client internally and externally. I'm confident my firewall ports are ok as I've let the connection server installer configure the firewall on the internal connection server, and security server. I've installed the HTML Access component on the connection server only. Also, ive configured the PCOIP Secure gateway to point to the connection server's internal IP address under the 'connection server' section and the security server is configured with the external IP for PCOIP Secure Gateway. I've also enabled HTML Access for the pool.

 

I've always had this working fine in the past. The only difference this time is I'm using a full clone instead of a linked clone.

 

If anyone has any tips I'd be very grateful. Im tearing my hair out over this one!

Vmware Workstation on Digital Ocean Droplets (Ubuntu 14) - unrecoverable errors

Dear Community,

I try to running a vmware virtual machine on Digital Ocean droplets (cloud servers). On this droplet I have installed Ubuntu 14 64bit.

On Ubuntu 14 I installed Vmware Workstation 11 successfully.

I create a Virtual Machine and then I set vmx.allowNested = TRUE on .vmx file.

I start virtual machine to install Windows Xp but it returns me these errors:

Config settings do not work

Hey there. After updating vmvare from 10 to 11 stopped working some of the parameters in the configuration file.

For example, the parameter logging = "FALSE" will not disable the creation of log files, mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE" will not disable the creation of the file with the contents of RAM.

So, I can not make all the necessary memory is reserved at the start of the VM and not shared this memory from the host. Any ideas to solve the problems?

Workstation 11 .0.0 Build-2305329 hangs - Win 8.1 host

Hello.  I have a new Dell Inspiron 3847 (i5-4460) with 16G RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 with 10.18.10.3960 driver, Windows 8.1 and am trying to run Workstation 11.

 

The only other applications installed (other than the bloatware that came on the box) on the host are Norton Security, Chrome and CrashPlan, which has backup of the Virtual Machine directory excluded.

 

The problem is that the Workstation app shows "not responding" often and the guests hang.  After a couple minutes, it all comes back to life.  I'm running between 1 and 3 guests, all either win 7 or win 8.1.


Where should I look to begin to troubleshoot this.  I would have expected this setup to be somewhat responsive.  I've looked at other posts and have disabled "Accelerate 3D graphics" on all 3 VMs.

Get-stat syntax and parameters

Where can I locate a *complete* reference of the get-stat cmdlet, including:

  • All the entities I can query
  • All the stats I can specify (if possible, divided by entity)

an some examples I can take as example?

I was able to locate dozens of interesting pages and samples, but no complete reference...

Reclaim free space using UNMAP... are there other options?

Hi

 

I'm trying to reclaim free space at thin provisioned LUN using NMAP commands. I am using a Netgear ReadyNAS 312 connected with ISCSI to my ESXi host.

Unfortunately, VAAI is not supported:

esxcli storage core device vaai status get

naa

   VAAI Plugin Name:

   ATS Status: unsupported

   Clone Status: unsupported

   Zero Status: supported

   Delete Status: unsupported

 

Since UNMAP is not supported (Devices backing volume ... do not support UNMAP), what are other options to reclaim unused space?

Is the only option for this to make it a thick LUN instead of a thin one? Or do I need to make the VMDK on the LUN thick? Or will one of both help me out?

I am preparing the documents to install vCenter 5.5 with ten ESXi Hosts in a cluster. We will be using a SQL 2014 database. What are the requirements and permissions required for setting up the database? We will be using Windows integrated login for SQL and scripts provided in the installation guide created only SQL user. Please advice...

Windows 10, Workstation 10, no LAN bridge

Hi!

 

So, I'm running Windows 10, 64x tech preview. VMware workstation (latest greatest build (10.0.3) installs and it works just fine.

 

I always link a VMnet to a dedicated physical NIC. (bridge), however, even though I'm able to configure it, it simply doesn't work. The VMnet works fine internally on workstation, but not a single packet seems to be able to transfer to the host.

 

No firewall running, the VMware bridge drive is installed properly. When I create a host adapter for a virtual network and bridge it with the physical one it works, too. But a direct bridge doesn't work.

 

Can anyone running Windows 10 64x tech preview confirm this? It's quite simple configured as below.

Workstation 8 uninstall fails on Windows 8.1 home

I had an old copy of Workstation 8 that I wanted to try on my new PC running windows 8.1. Installation was fine as well as the 8.0.4 update but when I tried to create a new vm to run 64-bit ubuntu as the client, it complained and wouldn't proceed. As a result, I decided to uninstall it. The uninstall process hung where I had to power cycle. When Windows was back up, I repeated the uninstall to be presented with an error message that a particular file couldn't be found and thus the uninstall terminated. I tried repairing the install with the CD but it complained that since there was a newer version installed, I needed to uninstall it before continuing. Thus, infinite loop!

 

How can I get this uninstall to work?

permissions to create customization specifications on a specific datacenter

Hello all,

 

We have a situation where we want to grant an admin of a specific VMware datacenter the ability of creating/modifying customization specifications to be used on that particular datacenter. However, we don't want this admin to be able to modify any of the existing customization specifications that are used by the others datacenters... is this possible?

Virtual Machine performance degradation, when resizing host window

Setup:

Intel i7-4770, Asrock Z87 extreme MB, 16GB RAM, Intel 330 SSD (system), 640GB WD hard drive (storage).

Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x64 , latest updates/drivers

VMware Player 7

 

VM setup:

Created virtual machine with settings:

2GB vRAM

1 vCPU/vCore (I also tested with 2 vCPU - same result)

30GB virtual hard disk (SCSI)

CD/DVD (SATA)

Network - default NAT

USB Controller: tested with USB v2.0 (with v3.0 - same result)

Display - 1024 x 768 fixed resolution without 3D acceleration.

 

Use case:

Within the VM:

1. I installed the latest Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 (x64) with all the latest updates.

2. Attached USB v2.0 DVB-T tunner with chipset rtl2832u to the VM.

3. Installed tvheadend with all the default settings (from github) and configured a single mux.

 

Within the Host:

1. Started any HTSP client (XBMC\Kodi\VLC player)

2. Switched to the channel with the best reception.

3. When the playback start, popup any browser or Windows explorer window and start resizing it or refresh any browser tab.

 

Result: The video playback start stuttering or even stucks forever. In the guest linux console I can see that the USB performance goes so bad, that the reception from the DVB-T dongle is completely useless!

Can someone explane this to me please? Is there anything that I don't know - any hidden optimizations or something like that, so I can use my computer with virtualization?

 

Note: I don't do anything else on the host or the guest (all other applications are stopped).

PS; Till the end of this week I will try to test the same use case on Linux Ubuntu\ Fedora and Windows 8.

Object Space Reservation

Hi,

 

Can anyone highlight any benefits to leaving this as the default setting of 0% in VSAN? Other than the obvious situation of being able to over provision your storage, something I don't actually need to do.

 

Are these valid?

1) In the event of a host/disk/ssd failure there will less data to migrate around the cluster.

2) During normal operation when VSAN is migrating/placing objects the vmdk's will be smaller.

Video pass through using Core i7 -3770

I'm a complete newbie but everything from installing to running esxi has been pretty simple and straight forward. That is until I heard about passthrough and thought that maybe I could have a home lab and an HTPC in one box.

 

Now I'm running esxi 5.5 U2 on an:

 

AS Rock PRO4-M LGA1155 Intel H77 mother board

with a Core i7 -3770

 

I tried to just set up passthrough for everything on the list of available devices and I broke my server and have had to reinistall it a few times. One problem I keep running into is when I set up passthrough the server doesn't boot all the way. Then this other time the server took about 15 minutes to boot. This lead me to believe that maybe blindly passing everything is not a good idea.

 

 

Can anyone give me an insight on how video passthrough works or how it is suppose to work?

チーミングの動きについて

お世話になります。

基本的な質問ですが

仮想スイッチで2つの物理NICをチーミングし、

仮想スイッチに接続したゲストOSへ別のWindowsPCからping中、

チーミングしているNICを抜くと

1回程度、pingが通らなくなりますが、これが正常な動作でしょうか？

 

勝手なイメージで仮想スイッチ側で瞬時？に切り替え、

pingが落ちることなく切り替わるのかな？と思っていました。

 

よろしくお願いいたします。

Shut down VM's from taskbar issue

Being able to shut down the Virtual machines from the Windows taskbar is an unnecessary feature. When running multiple machines it is fairly easy to accidentally shut down or pause a system with a misclick. I have multiple times missed the window and hit the stop button shutting down a machine I was working with.

I think since there are multiple ways to do these tasks from the menu already it should be removed or an option to remove it should be included.
