Hi ,
I have several host in cluster a vMotion work . but now I need to remove some VM on another host and migrate option is grayed out , option remove from disk and remove from inventory are also grayed out.
Vmotion work because I have migrated some VM already to other hosts. there are no running task , snapshots are removed .
Is anyone have an idea what can be a problem?
Hi,
One of the physical disks forming the vSAN is full and shows with an error within the vSAN capacity health check.
This is the likely cause of a VM which is complaining that its vmdk has no free space (yellow bar with click retry after adding more space on the datastore) - VMware Knowledge Base
There is a vSAN re-sync going on which is almost complete but the specific physical disk usage has not changed (still fully used). Should this fail to free up disk space from the specific physical disk, is there any manual intervention that can be done?
As additional info - There is around 12% free disk space on the vSAN datastore, one host forming the same vSAN had been placed in maintenance and its data had been fully migrated.
Thanks
Hi - I have been running into issues with running the patch on Windows 7 for CVE-2019-0708 (BlueKeep) - when I try to install the Microsoft patch from (https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2019-0708 ) the VM freeze:

Hello all,
Curious if anyone has created a SQL tools Config file either 17 or 19. Using the Application Profile doesn't help much here. If the app is analyzed with the default exclusions, it brings back no suggestions. If it is analyzed without the default exclusions, It brings too much back. Overwhelming looking at these results.
Thanks
We have noticed some threads on packet capture and flow collection issues/questions related to NSX. Take a look at this option from ReSTNSX - Cloud Check.
Cloud Check is a tool that allows you to centrally capture flow data from NSX or vRNI for analysis. This has been very helpful to customers looking to analyze VM traffic in preparation to move to the cloud or simply for troubleshooting reasons. The data is collected real-time (dFW or vRNI) or historical (vRNI) and presented in simple graphs and tabular data.
With the dFW option, only a prepped host for NSX Firewall is needed - no external collectors or analyzers. Additionally, the dFW approach observes all flows, not sampled like IPFIX/Netflow.

I have to virtualized an old Windows 2003 machine (old HP rusty server) but I'm facing a lot of problems.
As target I have selected our vCenter (6.5) and as host an ESXi 6.5.
When the P2V job is submitted, it fails after a while with the error:
A file I/O error occurred while accessing ".
Looking the vCenter, during the job submission I can see a task of the creation of the virtualized machine in the correct cluster and after a while I see another task of deletion of the same machine.
At this point the P2V job fails with the error.
I start the troubleshooting and I see that if I select a different host (same vCenter, same ESXi 6.5 version, same hardware) I have no error and the job start correctly. I have to stop the job in this case because the host is on a different LAN and the traffic will be redirected to our WAN.
I did another test, I removed the initial designated host (the one where I got the issue) from the vCenter, pointing it directly when I create the P2V job and this time the error message is less cryptic:
A General system error occurred: SSL Exception: Operation was canceled
At this point I checked if this host has different configuration compairing it with the one where the job NOT fails and the two environment are the same (except the network config because they are located in different countries).
Regarding the converter I tested: 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2 but the 6.2 refuses to install because the services installed did not come up :
Error 1920. Service VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Server (vmware-converter-server) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system service.
I'm using local admin account so I should have all privileges I need.
In the past I did almost 30 similar P2V conversions with no issues, with similar environment.
What do you think ?
Hi,
One of my vCenters currently runs 6.0 on Windows Server 2012R2. I'd like to update it to 6.0U3h or later to mitigate the L1 Terminal Fault vulnerability (VMSA-2018-0020 ). However, I notice https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search shows it does not have u3h or later for vCenter on Windows (it does have for VCSA) which means I can't patch it to mitigate the security risk. 6.0u3h release notes mention nothing about Windows version of the patch: VMware vCenter Server 6.0 Update 3h Release Notes
Does it mean I can't patch the vCenter to fix the issue? Thanks,
Hello, I installed the Cisco vWLC in vmware workstation and for some reason I'm not able to access it on port 443. I'm able to ping it but not https to it. I've installed this in the past and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure what's happening now. I'm bridging to my physical NIC and I have other VMs that are on the same bridged network and they're fine as well. Can someone assist me in troubleshooting why is this happening?
Thanks
Hi,
Due to business requirements, I can't upgrade my vCenter 6.0 on Windows Server to VCSA 6.5 or later. Is it supported to "upgrade" from vCenter 6.0 on Windows to VCSA 6.0?
Thanks,
We have two vSphere 6.5 clusters located on separate sites. vCenter servers are all VCSA with PSC embedded. Is it possible to reconfigure the vCenters to enable Enhanced Linked Mode between those two sites without the need of re-deploy vCSA?
I tried to follow this article, but it appears I cannot reconfigure SSO domain with Embedded PSC setup.
https://open902.com/vcenter-linked-mode/
If redploy can't be avoided, can I keep my vCenter settings like vDS and SRM plugins?
Hi All,
I am running Fusion 10 on Macbook Pro (2015) on 10.14.5.
I run this macbook in clamshell mode (lid closed).
Amphetamine is installed and enabled (stops sleep).
I have a win10 Fusion VM running - NIC bridged to the MBP NIC.
When the lid on the Mac is closed, I can only RDP to the VM if I connect to the Mac via screensharing first.
I do not have to log in to the Mac via screensharing, rather just the act of waking the 'virtual' screen seems to bring the connection alive on the VM.
When I am unable to RDP to the VM (before screen sharing to the Mac), I am also unable to Ping the VM (suggesting it is off the network). I am able to ping the Mac, when the Mac is on WiFi.
Interestingly, I put the Mac onto USB ethernet (and turned off WiFi, changed VM config) and in this case the Mac even drops off the network.
I have set all power settings on the Mac and the VM to 'do not sleep' - as well as amphetamine running.
I've disabled appnap globally.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
Thanks in advance..
Hi All,
I have 2 ESXi host which has the 4 NICS and below is their ip address
Mgmt ip - 10.192.11.xx(VLAN 21)
Vmotion - 10.192,12.xx(VLAN22)
VM network - 10.192.13.xx(VLAN24)
Each has different gateway. When i configure all NICs in a DV switch. Vcenter connectivity is getting disconnected. Is this IP assignment is correct.
My Question is like we have different subnets. Is it ok for configuring different subnets for Mgmt, Vmotion and VM.
Please help me
Hello.
I want to install "VMware Tools" on CentOS 7 x86_64 but it show me "Failed - The operation is not allowed in the current state.", How can I solve it?
Thank you.
I am in administrator's account and WHY THE FRICC STILL SHOWING THIS WINDOW UP?!?!
OS: Windows 10 May 2019 update
VMware Workstation: 15 Pro
Account(s): 1
Administrator: Yes
Why is this still happening?
My method is to copy to my Acer Device that has VMware installed and put it to Lenovo computer.
The 15 Pro can't friccin proceed to finish thing
The only version that finishes the following: VMware Workstation 15 Player (setted it to non-commercial use)
I did the same thing as the 15 Pro setting it to "Try VMware Workstation for 30 days."
And it's still happening... Pictures Below:
I'm looking forward to discussing my file server architecture. Today I have the following scenario: 1 Windows 2008R2 server as AD, 1 Windows 2012R2 server as fileserver and a 27TB storage connected via iSCSI in Windows 2012R2 (NTFS file system). Both Windows servers are VMs hosted on an ESXi 6.0U3. Today this fileserver hosts something around 12TB of my company's daily use files.
We are in the migration project of our infrastructure from Windows to Linux and this is a good time to rethink this architecture. So I set up 2 possible scenarios and would like to share with you and discuss the best performance-focused architecture:
Scenario 1: Storage concatenated via iSCSI directly on Linux (the ESXi VM) and formatted with EXT4;
Scenario 2: Storage connected via iSCSI in ESXi and creation of a VMTK with 27TB (using VMFS-5) attached to Linux VM.
In both cases the contents of the storage will be shared using SMB for more or less 150 Windows stations.
Live long and prosper,
Marcelo Magalhães
I thought I'd share some tricks we have used to get legacy apps to work on newer versions of Windows and to persist their data.
For HKLM settings you want to persist you can either change the permissions of the desired key on the golden image so that during uem import, the key can be modified or you can use registry virtualization
Registry Virtualization - Windows applications | Microsoft Docs which I think is more difi ult to set up. Either way, be as selective as possible by modifying just the key you are trying to persist instead of opening up the permissions of the entire HKLM. Similarly, with UAC on and LUA principles followed, we resort to using UEM to capture files from %localappdata%\virtualstore\
Security: Inside Windows Vista User Account Control | Microsoft Docs
For legacy apps that use .ini files in protected locations, you can use .ini file mapping which stores the .ini values in the registry instead.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/102889/mapping-ini-file-entries-to-the-registry
Microsoft provides the Application Compatibility Toolkit. The kit let's you create a custom shim database which modifies the behavior of specific apps like reading and writing to different file locations using the CorrectFilePaths command.
We have half a dozen legacy apps that use at least one if not two of these tricks. While making someone a local admin or elevating a process with UEM is an option, it is the easy way out and leaves you vulnerable.

Hi all,
I recently expanded the disk in the VM settings from 40 to 80gb. Now, it suddenly won't boot at all. Nothing happened in between those two steps. I expanded the disk then tried to boot and it failed.
I get this error:
The VMware Tools power-on script did not run successfully in this virtual machine. If you have configured a custom power-on script in this virtual machine, make sure that it contains no errors. You can also submit a support request to report this issue
I didn't configure any custom power-on scripts.
and the terminal shows the following errors:
[failed] Failed to start Create Volatile Files and Directories. See 'systemct1 status systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service' for details.
Starting update UTMP about System Boot/Shutdown...
then a bunch of [FAILED] Failed to start network name resolution.
I really have no clue what to try and can't find that file it's referencing anywhere. Any ideas would be a huge help.
Even if I could just get my files off of it, that's fine. I'm just concerned about a few things I don't have backed up.
