I've currently got one VM created on a 2 host cluster and when I power it up I get the above message. Have any of you good people got any ideas why this maybe the case considering I have only just created the VM, which passed all compatibility checks during the creation process and is being started up for the first time

vCenter 6.7U1 file based backups using FileZilla FTPS Server
I've configured FileZilla accordingly, created a backup schedule for testing. The backup was estimated to be approx 365mb in size. The schedule kicked in and started uploading content to the FTPS server. At the 297mb mark, vcsa start deleting all the content and spits out and error, "BackupManager encountered an exception." The logs on FileZilla do not show anything unusual, but checking the /var/log/vmware/applmgmt/backup.log, I found this entry:
BackupManager encountered an exception: While reading from '/etc/systemd/network/10-eth0.network' [line 8]: option 'address' in section 'Network' already exists
I checked the file the error is referencing and that particular line is the IPv4 address of the vcsa.
I'm stumped.
Any suggestions?
what is this error
Datastore free space sizes flapping in vCenter
I have a very odd issue myself or my co-workers have never seen before. I've been working w/ VMware support on this for a couple months now, to no avail. I'm curious if anyone in the community has ever run across this, because it's quite hard to get to the root of.
Issue: We have several storage DRS clusters in which the datastores will flap back & forth regarding their available free space. The swings are quite large...in the terabytes. This causes us VM deployment failures, and disk management (think disk expansion) task failures. When we SSH into the hosts and look at the amount of free space a host sees for a datastore that is flapping, it shows what we (myself and VMware support) believe is the correct value, where vCenter sees a different value. This behavior is observed on many hosts, it's not an isolated instance. From everything I can tell, it's vCenter that is reporting the wrong values for free space in a good number (but not all) datastores.
vCenter: 6.5 U2
hosts: 6.5 U2
Storage Array: multiple vendors, not one particular vendor array
sDRS settings: We've tweaked these settings every which way we can think of to try to determine the root cause, all to no avail. We've even disabled sDRS, it did not make a difference.
Anyone ever see an issue like this? We're quite stumped, but need to get to some sort of resolution.
Thanks in advance,
Jay
vmdk recover
Hello,
I accidentally deleted a vm from the datastore and unfortunately I don't have a backup. Already tried photorec but with no luck. I've found some discussions here from a user, Continuum, that has some knowledge in this matter. Unfortunately I can't send pms, new vmtn user here (not vsphere though), so I'm trying to contact him here.
Thank you
Mauro
Are you troubleshooting I/O errors of local disks ? - here is another possible reason.
Are you troubleshooting I/O errors of local disks ?
If your conclusion is "something obscure happens in the BIOS of the ESXi-host" then maybe this helps:
Understanding ATA Security » ADMIN Magazine
Symptoms may be:
hexdump -C /dev/disks/t10************:1 - fails immediatly with an I/O error
partedUtil getptbl /dev/disks/t10******************* fails
dd commands fail at once with I/O errors
File type association with Horizon Client
Hi All,
So I am publishing apps through Application Pools and I am just wondering why some apps can be associated with horizon published file types on a user’s PC (it seems like all office products allow you to pick) but the other ones don’t. Also, how can you associate a particular horizon app to a file type?
Thanks
Horizon 7.7/7.8 Instant Clones and display resolution issues
hello
Having an issue with Instant clones not displaying properly. One of two things is happening:
1) when using single monitor, the display is fine but you cannot change the resolution of the virtual desktop display it is greyed out.
2) when using multiple monitors, the display is not spanning to both displays (pool is set to 2 displays) this is with Windows 7 and Windows 10, as well as the resolution is greyed out and cannot be changed.
Not using UEM to lock down anything. This is happening with 2 different environments, whether it is dedicated or floating instant clone pools.
Any thoughts?
How to return tag of a specific VM
Hello,
I am trying to return the value of the tag for a specific VM
Using something like
'get-vm WIN-17-07 | get-tagassignment | select tag'
will return the Category name + the Tag name such as:
'jenkinsInstance/Jenkins'
but I want it to return the Description field which is where I have the URL saved
if I do 'get-tag' I see all of the tags, including the one I want to use, plus it's Description, but I can't get it to return the Description based on a VM name that I give it.
I basically want to run:
'get-tag | Where VM-Name -eq "WIN-17-07" | Select-Object Description'
But I can't seem to because "get-tag" only returns the tag name, category, and description so I can't specify which VM name to get the tag from.
How do i do this?
Search filed is not returning any virtual desktops
We are trying to troubleshooting poor performance in a few of vdi desktops in one particular pool. We would like look at metrics per desktops and each time search for a particular desktops using the main search field in vrops manager or in the virtual desktop field in the helpdesk dashboard no desktops are returned. Any reason why the search function is not returning desktop? Any help would be appreciated.
Failed migration of VM to vsan, could it be a vmdk naming issue?
i tried to migrate at largish fileserver (5.5TB) to vsan on friday, but it failed twice doing so.
and im wondering if my issue is due to multiple vmdks with the same name?
the server has 5 disks.
disk one is located on datastore A and is called fileserver.vmdk
disk two is located on datastore A and is called fileserver_1.vmdk
disk three is located on datastore B and is called fileserver.vmdk
disk four is located on datastore C and is called fileserver.vmdk
disk five is located on datastore D and is called fileserver_5.vmdk
is that an issue for vsan, or should it be able to handle this during a migration?
tdlr: 5 disks, 3 of which has the exact same vmdk name. is it an issue to migrate to vsan?
Vmware HCX for on-Prem to on-Prem Migration
Hello,
Can VMware HCX product be used for the migration of VMs from one on-Prem data center to another other? It looks like this product is only meant for migration between on-Prem and Cloud e.g. Vmware on AWS?
Workstation 15 Pro/WindowsXP guest print issues.
I have a client who is using an old DOS machine for accounting and have virtualized the XP machine that was being used for it. I've been having issues over trying to get it to print from this VM to the printer in there office, I have added a PCI parallel port card and the host can recognize the card as LPT1 and the VM will recognize the card as well as an LTP1 port. I've been unsuccessful just trying to perform a test print from the guest and have been able to test print from the host machine (Windows 10) and am getting an error when I start the VM that the "LPT1" device is being used by another program. Even tho I know its not being used. Any input on this would be great as I've been trying to troubleshoot this the past few days. Thanks!
VMware horizon crashing mac update
Hi,
I've updated my mac yesterday to the latest OS version and the VMware Horizon Client is crashing every time I lock the screen and sometimes even when I'm simply idle for a minute or two. Did anyone experience something similar? Any solutions?
Cheers
EVC Mode
Hi,
i have a Cluster with 2 ESXI 6.7 Hosts. If i try to VMotion VMs i get this message:

'vmkfstools --inflatedisk' command has no effect
Hi All,
I have a disk (vmdk) like "Thick Provision Lazy", and I need to change it to "Thick Provision Eager", well, I ran the command 'vmkfstools --inflatedisk PANVFSP380A_3.vmdk', didn't give any error, gave as' 100% done 'but on VMware's properties, it still remains as Thick Lazy. Is there a procedure after the vmkfstools --inflatedisk command needs to be done to confirm the change?
Return of the command:
"[root@VSPHERESERVER:/vmfs/volumes/5bce4edd-e282a332-2220-6cc2173fc0d0/PANVFSP380A_1] vmkfstools --eagerzero PANVFSP380A_3.vmdk
Eagerly zeroing: 100% done."

ESXi v5.5 U3 SSL Certificate not "checking in"
Curious if anyone else has seen this. I enable HA on the cluster and I have a host that won't join HA, the error comes out as HA is unavailable. Checking the fdm log I see the below error.
Its not like normal SSL errors where the cert is bad, the problem is the new cert is good its just not being accepted. For the peer thumbprint it shows the thumbprint of the new cert, for the expectedthumbprint it shows the old cert. For whatever reason it just won't look for the new one even though the cert is perfectly fine. Any way to force vCenter to look for the new one? Its like its just not registering for some reason.
I've done all the basic stuff like remove it from the cluster and add it back in. Restart it, restart management agents. I even emptied the cluster out completly and added everything back, same answer.
