Migrating+Upgrading Horizon View to new vCenter appliance 6.5
Hello,
We're targeting tomorrow morning to begin a vCenter upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5u2, which we've decided the first step of this would be to migrate our vCenter Server from Windows 6.0 to 6.5u2 appliance.This will require us (according to the compatibility matrix) to upgrade our Horizon View from 7.0.3 to 7.1. While I've read -and am currently reading- reams of information, I figured while I am going through the details to add to the project plan, I'd ask for an "upgrade order" guideline because it's been kinda maddening hopping from one caveat/link to another document as VMware intricately weaves a labyrinthine tale of exceptions, musts, nevers and other harrowing steps that are potentially catastrophic.
So, what is best practice to perform this stage of the upgrade? Primarily, we are upgrading our vCenter ESXi environment from 6.0 to 6.5u2. We are migrating from vCenter Server 6.0 Windows to 6.5u2 Appliance. As part of that, to keep seamless operations, we are also upgrading our View environment from 7.0.3 to 7.1, the least minimum revision that is compatible with 6.5u2.
So, specifically:
Should it be broken into stages over a few days?
Should both be done simultaneously?
Do they trade upgrade steps, such as performing step 1, 2 & 3 on vCenter, then 1, 2 & 3 on View, then go back to vCenter and perform 4, 5 & 6...you get the drift.
Or, if linear, which upgrade should we perform entirely first? Is that recommended or possible?
I also plan to continue searching, but a general guideline would be a tremendous help for the purposes of the project plan. I'll backfill the details if any steps are offered.

Using VMware on Windows 1903 host machine cannot turn on guest machine
Hello, I got a problem after upgrade to Windows Insider Preview 1903 18362.30 x64 on host machine.
CPU : I5-8400
RAM : 16G
Host OS : Windows 10 1903 x64 18362.30 (Latest WIP)
VMWare Version : 15.0.4 build-12990004
Before I upgraded to Windows Insider Preview 18362.30, I was using Windows 10 RS5 x64 as a host operating system.
I could run any VM guest machine without any problem.
But, after I upgrade to Windows 10 1903, I cannot run any VM guest.
Guest screen only shows a black screen, and nothing happens.
Anybody has same issue like this? And if anybody has solution it will be very thankful.

XP VM suddenly slow, Win 7 fine
I have a number of Windows XP and Windows 7 virtual machines installed on my Win10 host that have worked fine for months.
Today I had two Win 7 machines started and started a Win XP one, the performance on the XP VM was extremely slow or stalled for minutes at a time. The Win 7 machines were still running OK.
I tried closing all other VM's and XP was still slow, tried a XP and host reboot and XP still slow (10 mins to restart XP).
I have also tried another two WinXP VM's and they are also slow.
I moved one of the XP VM's to another host and it goes fine.
XP task manager shows 100% cpu usage with ~95% kernel times. Host machine is around 20% usage and still responds OK.
Any suggestions?
VMware is also saying the vmware tools are out of date and no 3D graphics will be avail.
Not sure if related but this morning I also couldn't log in to my host Win10 profile until I tried a windows update (no updates) and then restarted (as suggested on forums).
I might try a different user profile when this XP finishes updating vmware tools (40 mins into it so far, zzzz)
Update: Feb 13
Tried on a different profile and same, reinstalled VMware and still the same (XP VM slow, Win7 VM fine).
Looks like the main slow point is disk access, with nothing running I can bring up the start menu pretty quick. Updating the tools took around 1.5 hours.
Tried running an xp vm that a colleague had made with workstation and it was set to use 8 cores and it near froze the host.

VMotion VM's between EVC modes
Hi. I have a VM that is currently sitting in a different cluster. This cluster is running EVC mode "Sandy Bridge." I need to migrate it to a cluster of 12 host that are running EVC mode "Meron." I get an error when trying to vmotion due to features being disabled. Can I change the EVC mode? If so, what impact would this have?

Skyline Advisor Last Activity 4 Days Ago
After upgrading my collector to from 2.0.0.2 to 2.1.0, Skyline Advisor hasn't updated. All of the endpoints look good.
But advisor doesn't.
Any ideas?

no entitlements available
Hi,
I tried to deploy Skyline but after request access and register the system search an entitlement but cannot fin it. We have an EA with production support level so I think that we are entitled to use Skylane after reading faqs.
I tried to setup also via my.vmware.com instead cloud.vmware.com but at the end it redirects me to the same portal.
Could anyone help me to associate the EA entlement to my account?.

Host reboot and IP addresses are lost
New HPE DL380 Gen10 servers running the HPE customized ESXi 6.7 software
Management is setup on standard switch, DVswitch used for VM, iSCSI, and vMotion traffic
VMkernel ports are all setup for iSCSI and vMotion with iSCSI binding showing all storage volumes
Reboot a host and the IP address information for the iSCSI and vMotion is gone! The IP address for the management network stays just fine
Not sure if the problem lies with the setup of these new servers (BIOS or NIC settings) or with the HPE customized version of ESXi
Any ideas?

RAID 1 is lost and inaccessible guests after activating the two hard drives
Greetings ALL,
I have the below issue and appreciate your support.
I have DELL PowerEdge R710 with two hard drive used to be RAID 1. VMware host is serving two VM guests.
With some power supply issues we encountered, I found the server is not working. Checked the BIOS and found the two drives are INACTIVE. I proceeded and activated them through SAS Controller (CTRL-C). However, after activation, I noticed the RAID-1 is not anymore applicable. That is drives are not member of RAID anymore unfortunately.
I proceeded with loading the host. VMware loading but reached to an error indicating duplicate UUID. I understood is related to the two drives (they have same ID - could be) since they are mirroring to each other (my understanding only).
I pulled the second drive physically and load the host again. VMware loaded normally. However when I remote connect to it using vSphere, I saw the two guests showing inaccessible (Unknown). I noticed there is no datastore.
I have images of the two VM guests (vmdk)but not I do not have image for the whole two drives when RAID 1 was working.
Two kind requests for help. I am new to VMware
One which is to understand is the VMware installed in the drives or with the BIOS.
Second, How I can return RAID1 and the VM guests. If not both, how to retrieve the VM guests using single drive.

How to associate a support entitlement to a company / an organization in Skyline ?

J'ai créé un compte générique pour l'entreprise, puis ai associé mon compte professionnel à l'organisation.
Mon compte professionnel est bien associé à l'entreprise (l'organisation) dans "MyVmware".
Quand j'essaie "Associate support entitlement" pour ce compte, j'obtiens toujours "No support entitlement are available for the customer".
Comment puis - je faire ?

Port Groups & VLANS
I have several Esxi 6.0 hosts that have several servers on each. I wanting to use a web client, not vsphere client, to access them. Ultimately what I need to do is be able to create a Port Group with 4 vnics so I can use vlan tags. Is this do able without having vCenter?

Nakivo Backup on separate (direct) lan connection
Hello everyone,
I would like ask you for an advise.
This is only about my home lab, so just simple one esxi host without vcenter.
I am also using Nakivo as backup solution for my lab thats running on QNAP.
So far they were both on same subnet running without issues.
This week I added a 10GB connection to both devices and have just direct cable connection between them.
From esxi and VMs on top of it I can reach the QNAP without problem (NFS, SMB, SSH).
Also from QNAP itself I can SSH to the ESXi host.
All this using the 10GB connection.
But when I add this host with a new IP to Nakivo It all behaves very weird.
I know Nakivo is using ports 902 and 443, but nothing is being blocked on esxi side.
The only message I receive in hostd logs on esxi is

App Volumes 3x with horizon 7.7
we currently have app volumes 2.12 with horizon 7.5. We will be ugrading to 7.7 should we upgrade appvolumes to 3.x or 2.16

COM Port Changing
We have a USB device that only works on COM9. I have set it to take COM9 in
device manager, but sometimes takes COM3. When it is assigned to COM3 it
shows that it is set to be assigned to COM9 in the advanced port
settings. I have also verified the device entries in regedit are associated to PortName
COM9, but still unsure why the device attaches to COM3. I am using a packaging
machine that is a clone of the golden image. OS is Win 10 LTSC 1809. App Vol Agent
2.15.0.41. Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen that if you wasn to migrate a Citrix VM to Vsphere then you need a converter ( Vmware Converter)
I want to ask if its possible to do this with another way?!?

For example - we have "Hosting-Daughter Company" that uses 10 000 points and which is Subsidiary of two Parent Company - one of them is "Parent-Business Company" with owning 51% and second is "Parent-Telecom Company" with 49%....
"Parent-Telecom Company" already has cloud business based on vCloud for hosting and every month buys 20 000 points.
So nowadays "Parent-Telecom Company" wanna aggregate all vCloud points from Subsidiary company "Hosting-Daughter Company" and would like to buy 30 000 points cheaper and re-sell 10 000 points to "Hosting-Daughter Company"
Is it legal? (White Label Model for Rental License etc???)
