Skype doesn't work on linked-clone only

Posting here because the problem I'm seeing is only happening on a Windows 10 (Win 7 is fine) linked-clone non-persistent VM.

The problem doesn't happen in the Golden Master for the linked-clones, it doesn't happen in VM Workstation, or on a physical device.

 

Horizon 7.5

Client Windows 10 1709

S4B 16.0.4738.1000

 

When trying to log in, the error message "There was an error acquiring personal certificate..."

I've tried all the regular help topics for this, but nothing is working.

 

Again, it works fine in the master image, so it does appear something is happening during the quickprep process?

 

 

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Client machine's cpu runs at 100% when I start and remains so

I am using VMWare workstation 15 and I installed a copy of windows 10. A week ago I believe it was fine, but then suddenly CPU of the guest started running at 100%, I even couldn't start the machine. It will show the spinning image when windows is starting.

 

The host did not show any increase in cpu.

 

I gave the guest machine 6gb of ram, 2 processors. I lowered them, increased them, etc, but does not seem to improve.

Here is a print screen of the Task manager. How it is showing system is high but that differs very quickly.

Any help is much appreciated.

Which option to choose when adding an existing host

Hey experts out there, I need your advice please:

 

I have a cluster already managed by a vCenter Server for Windows but the vCenter is broken so I installed a replacement VCSA

 

On the new VCSA, I created a new empty cluster and tried to add the hosts to this new cluster.

Coming to the last part of it I was asked  a question about Resource Pool

 

Choose where to place this host's virtual machines

- Put all of this host's virtual machines in the cluster's root resource pool. Resource pools currently present on the host will be deleted.

- Create a new resource pool for this host's virtual machines and resource pools. This preserves the host's current resource pool hierarchy.

 

I do want to preserve the VMs, network configs, storage connections, data stores, and any other assets existing on the host.

I assume the term "Resource Pool" means those things that I need to keep, but is there anything else?

 

What option should I choose?

Hi Guys,

 

vCloud director || Tenant portal CPU/Memory/Storage customization

 

I logged in as a organization administrator in tenant portal "https://myvcd/tenant/test"

 

I have few doubt on new HTML5 interface of vcloud director.While creating a VM in new HTML5 tenant interface,i could not able to customize the CPU/memory.storage size.For example,i need to enter 10 GB for linux VM which is not available to enter.

 

 

 

However in the old Flash interface,i see the option to enter whatever i want(for example 10 GB HD for test VM). Is there any options available to do this in HTML5 tenant interface ?

Horizon cant connect to view agent

Hi Community,

 

im having trouble with horizon 7 trying to get the view agent on a Windows 10 VM to connect to the connection server?

 

on the horizon administrator under > machines > Status it says "Error : No network communication between the view agent and connection server. please verify that the virtual desktop can ping the connection server via FQDN."

 

I have the Domain controller with the Windows 10 VM and the connection server connected to the domain. and also the security server is connected to the domain. the vcenter is also connected to the horizon 7 without any errors.

 

I have noticed that if I ping the connection server with cmd : ping horizon.vm.net it doesn't ping so im assuming its a host files maybe in the c:\ system ?

vCD Extender first config error on ip/ui/mgmt/

Kia Ora,

 

Deploying 1.0.3 vCD Extender as an OVA using vCenter 6.5. Enter the appropriate details during Deploy from OVA Q&A, deploy, power on. Console directs you to hit ip/ui/mgmt/ url.

 

When i go to this URL it immediately provides a response screen in the browser with "Internal Error: Please Contact the Administrator".

 

Anybody else experience this or solved it ?

anonymous login not available

I noticed when I try to login from a 64 bit Windows 10 pc , that there is no option for "anonymous login", on my VMware Horizon client for Windows. Please let me know what I am missing from my configuration.

 

I also noticed when I tried to login remotely I get another error on my Horizon 7 client:

"Incorrect Authentication Type Requested"

 

What am I missing from my configuration ?

Issue with automatically mapping home drive on VMWare Workstation 12 + Windows Server 2016 + Windows 10

Hi there,

 

So I'm currently enrolled in an IT program, and for our most recent assignment, we have the following setup:
VM Workstation 12Windows 2016 Server VM
Windows 10 VM

 

We have our Windows 10 VM workstation joined into our Windows 2016 Server domain. We are now trying to setup a home folder for our test user by setting up a Home folder as a share and using Active Directory Administrative Center to link the user's Home folder using Connect H: To: \\server\home\%username%.

 

This has properly generated the user's home folder. The permissions are correct.

 

The issue is that the home folder is not being automatically mapped for the Windows 10 user upon login. The folder is accessible when manually mapped, however.

 

 

We have over 15 of us who have experienced this same issue. From my research, this is not a common Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 issue, although we have tried many fixes for similar issues. The unique thing here is that the folder is still accessible when manually mapped. It's just not mapping it on login.

 

My question is, could anything from VMWare itself, in terms of settings or anything, be interfering or creating an issue with the automatic mapping? I understand this is likely not the case, but I figured it was an avenue worth exploring after having exhausted most other options.

i have ip range from ISP provider  from 198.204.251.194  - 198.204.251.198  5 ips

 

my gateway is 198.204.251.193

 

i am using this ip for main esix 198.204.251.194 .

 

 

what is the problem ?

Does MAC address of guest os ever change

I have seen some older discussions on this from back in 2011 and 2014 and there have been varying answers.  The data Center I am using is doing some network changes and is assigning IP addresses by MAC address.  So we are having to go in and assign our machine MACs to our existing IPs.

 

My question is can I use the auto assigned MAC address from VMware or does it change everytime it reboots?

Would it be better to just go in and assign a custom MAC?

Can I just copy the existing Auto MAC and apply it as a custom MAC?

 

One article I read said that the MAC is written to the vmx file but I have also read of others having issue with the MAC changing.  Most of these are older so I am just wanting some confirmation.

KMIP 1.1 key management servers for vsphere 6.5 encryption

We are trying to set up vsphere 6.5 encryption for our environment, and there is a short list of recommended KMIP 1.1 key management server providers.  However, the catch we are running into is that so far they all seem to require that we have to buy their encryption packages as well.  In other words, we are having a hard time simply finding a stand alone KMIP 1.1 key management server without having to buy a bunch of other stuff with it we don't want.  So far this has been the case with vormetric, Thales, and safenet.  It also seems when I contact these vendors that they don't see to understand we just want key management, and so their sales people tell us we have to buy the whole package, we can't buy just a key management server.

 

Has anyone successfully set up vsphere 6.5 encryption yet?  If so, what KMS did you use?

KMS for Encryption Best Practices

Hi All,

 

I am looking to encrypt VM's for a few clients of mine. I see I need a KMS server on premise. I don't currently have a need for KMS outside of VM Encryption.

 

What I'm wondering is what are the implications of installing KMS role on one of the VM's that will be encrypted? If the VM crashes out will I be able to restore from backup considering the KMS service is on the Crashed Machine??

 

Is it best practice to have a small, dedicated KMS VM running on the host and leaving that unencrypted?

 

Also a question in a crash scenario..say my host dies and I need to restore the VM to new hardware, what is the restore process like with an encrypted VM?

Who and how much??
The only price I've seen is $5,000/year from HyTrust, which is unreasonable for SMBs with 3-node clusters.

I know security is important but we are also a non-profit to spend money really carefully.

How does Entitlement Handling work in Plugin V5.1?

Hi CalsoftTechie,

 

I have vRA/SNOW Plugin V5.1 installed in my Kingstion ServiceNow Instance.

 

Reading the installation procedure and using the vRA Entitlement form it looks straight forward, but, I think I'm missing something.

 

Now I'm seeing the plugin generated User Criteria applying access correctly within the vRA User Portal Catalog (i.e. https://<snow-inst>/vra).

But, not against items also the Service Portals Catalog (i.e. https://<snow-inst>/sp).

 

I have corrected the Service Portal access with another User Criteria, however, this doesn't feel right.

 

Can you please tell me how:

  • The vRA Entitlement records translate to User Criteria
  • They relate to the Catalog Items when in Catalogs & Categories other than the vRA Catalog & Categories
  • To best link the vRA Entitlements to Catalog Items in both the vRealize Automation Catalog & Service Catalog

vMotion scenario

Hi,

 

I have 1 master VM with 1 slave VM, so when Master vm  goes down, it is automatically vMotion into slave VM. Now I want to add another Master VM and run it as DB server and when it goes down I want it to be migrated to the same slave VM as existing master VM. Can this be done?

 

Scenario:

1 master vm & 1 slave vm is in pair already.

Add 1 more master vm to be covered by the same slave vm.

VP4 - Required number of desktop client pair(s) can not be created

In the previous post I got the problem of linked clone stuck in customizing state. Finally I was able to create a linked clone pool with an available VM. Running a remote test I got the "Required number of desktop client pair(s) can not be created, created pair(s) = 0, expected = 1".

disk was changing from thin to thick after detach and attach the disk back.

Hi,

I detach a disk from one VM and move it to other VM. while doing that the disk was changing from thin to thick. I want to mention that the disk is full capacity.

Why does VMware changing it to thick without mention it anywhere?

What will happen when i delete files from the disk? is it still going to stay thick?

VM resource share

Hi,

 

Currently I have 2 physical servers and installed esxi on both and managing via vCenter. Both server resources are identical, HDD: 600GB, Ram:256GB. (Total: 1.2TB hdd, 512GB ram)

 

So currently Server 1 is used as production and running, on the other hand Server 2 is used as fail-over, vMotion purpose. So when VM is Server 1 goes down, it gets automatically migrated into VM in Server 2.

 

The question is that from Server 1, can I allocate more than 600GB of HDD space into vm when it exceeds the capacity of physical HDD in Server 1? Which meanse can 2 servers' resouces be shared so that I can use not only 600GB but 1.2TB of HDD. Also same for ram allocation.

 

Is it limited to Server 1's physical capcity of can they be shared?
