vRealize appliance connectivity issue with my server Iaas

$

Hello everyone,

I'm a junior cloud architect and I'm deploying vRealize Automation for a Proof of Concept. I already deploy the appliance on my vCenter but during the configuration with the wizzard from Prerequisite checker step, it shows: .

And when i click run button for check the prerequisites in the Iaas server, it never show the list of prerequisites for the Iaas server.

It stucks on "Waiting for host to trigger prerequisite check".

If i can't know if my Iaas server meet all the requirements, i can't take the risk to pursue the installation, it will fail.

Thank's for the interrest.

Cannot extend datastore through vCenter Server

Has anyone ran into the issue of being unable to extend a data store through vCenter 6.0? If I connect directly to the host I can see the data-store change and apply it but from vCenter I don't see the data-store change so there's nothing to apply

Scroll Click (Mouse Button 3) - AutoCAD Pan issue, intermittent function

$

I'm not sure when this started occurring since there have been a few major updates on both the VM Fusion and Windows side of things, but recently I've found that "3rd Mouse Button" (aka Scroll Wheel click) is extremely intermittent. I use this button a lot in AutoCAD to pan around drawings, and lately it seems like there is nothing but headaches.

Some interesting facts:

- this happens MORE frequently if I have the "Virtual Machine Library" window minimized

- if I have the Virtual Machine Library window maximized, it still happens but LESS frequently

- Previous assumption was wrong - does not matter if VML window is minimized or maximized

- Control-Mouse3 never has an issue. Only Mouse3 by itself.

- no other mouse functions seem odd

- Took USB drivers down to USB 1.1, removed any USB 3.0 speciality drivers from Windows (no change)

Operating Environment:

- macOS Sierra, 10.12.6

- Windows 10 Pro

- VM Fusion 8.5.8

PSC is not opening in Web-Client

This issue mostly comes when we upgrade PSC ( appliances) , not able to open PSC in GUI mode.

This is certificate issue . there are 2 solution

1. Take snap shot and regenerate certificate then restart web-client service

2. Decommission affected PSC ( first check which PSC is pointing if you have 2 PSC) do not touch pointing PSC

3. Once Decomm delete it from disk and remove it from AD/DNS

4. Recreate DNS record

5. Deploy new PSC and join in Domain

6. Try IP/psc you should able to open it in GUI.

Enabling FT increases the Memory Utilization on a VM

$

Please refer to the following details below:

- 2 hosts running vSphere Enterprise 6.5

- 256 GB RAM on both hosts

- 10GB NICs are installed on both hosts for Fault Tolerance (FT Logging enabled)

- Dedicated 10GB NICs are also installed to handle vMotion and Management traffics

- Dedicated NICs are also installed to handle data traffic

- 1 VM is created to be used as vCenter server that manages both ESXi hosts

- 1 VM is created as a server with 4 vCPUs and 32 GB RAM

Now when we try to enable FT on that server VM, we are getting a "Virtual machine memory usage" alarm after around 5 minutes of enabling FT which then causes the VM to freeze and become unusable. Am I missing some configuration item here?

CentOS 7.4 - VMware Workstation 12.5.7-5813279x86_64 only runs as root

After upgrading to CentOS 7.4 and installing the above version of Workstation I'm only able to run vmware as root (but all of my VMs are owned by a non-root user, so this doesn't help).  Attempting to start vmware as a non-root user pops up the message about needing to install the modules. Clicking on "Install" quickly and quietly terminates the execution of vmware. Running as root doesn't display the popup but simply starts vmware as I would expect.

Attempting to start with "vmware-gksu --user XXXX vmware" behaves the same bad way.

I don't see anything useful in the logs, but then again, I don't really know what would be useful.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot connect Outlook to exchange using the Mac's vpn

I have fusion 8.5pro.  I made a vm win7 with office 2010 on it.

I connect to our vpn through the mac (not vm).  I can access corporate folders from the vm this way so I know the vpn from the mac is working.  But when I configure outlook, it cannot find the exchange server (2010).

The only way it can find it is if I vpn from the vm.  I want to avoid this two-step operation as it is redundant.

Any thoughts?

An error occurred during the conversion

$

I'm in the process of moving a few virtual machines from Virtual Box to VMWare ESXi.  I was able to successfully convert 3 VMs out of 4 using the VMWare Converter Standalone.  VM is running Ubuntu 14.10.

The last VM, however, is giving me all kinds of issues.  Conversion starts fine and then fails anywhere between 25% and 70% with the following error:

FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: '/usr/lib/vmware-converter/copyFileSystem.sh: line 125: 1917 Done echo <password> 1918 Done(141) | /usr/lib/vmware-converter/bin/ssh -z -F /usr/lib/vmware-converter/ssh.conf <user@ip.address> -p 22 "sudo tar --one-file-system --sparse -C '/' -cf - ." 1919 Killed | /bin/tar_1.28 --numeric-owner --delay-directory-restore -C '/mnt/p2v-src-root/' -y -xf - /usr/lib/vmware-converter/bin/ssh -z -F /usr/lib/vmware-converter/ssh.conf <user@ip.address> -p 22 "sudo tar --one-file-system --sparse -C '/' -cf - ." | /bin/tar_1.28 --numeric-owner --delay-directory-restore -C '/mnt/p2v-src-root/' -y -xf - (return code 137)'

From Log Hightlights:

8/3/2016 5:35:51 PM Error: unable to clone the volume mounted on '/' from '<ip address>'

I've tried few things to try and figure out what was causing the issue:

  • ran disk check to make sure there are no errors
  • stopped Atlassian services that run on this VM
  • tried converting to a different VMWare host
  • tried changing the partition sizes in converter
  • Reinstalled VMWare Converter
  • tried running VMware Converter from another machine
  • made sure no network drives/shares are connected

Any help would be much appreciated.

UAG3.0 + vIDM 2.9.1 -> Request Failed

Hi,

I have deployed UAG3.0 using the powershell script as a reverse proxy to use with vIDM, internally it works. But when accessing through UAG I get a "Request Failed, contact your IT Administrator" error when accessing vIDM user portal.

The "New End user portal UI" is already enable.

ESXI - AMD Threadripper Testing - Having Issues.

$

Hi All,

I have been playing with a new Threadripper 1950X build and was thinking about seeing if I could get ESXi working. So far I haven't been having much luck and my build keeps getting stuck at the following place:

https://s4.postimg.org/3v2ua1t9p/20170821_002755.jpg

I have tried all kinds from disabling all sata ports, disabling SMT, disabling USB3 and generally messing about with stuff in the bios but as yet I simply can't get it past this loading screen. I realise that this chip is not on the supported chips list yet and that its a long shot but figured if anybody would know it would be the good people in here.

Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated. I'm also fairly noob so go easy on me lads.

Thanks

Vince

VMware WS 12.5.6 fails to compile on openSUSE Leap 42.3 with kernel 4.4.68-2-default

$

VMware Workstation is having problems with openSUSE or vice-versa - again.

1)   Installed openSUSE Leap 42.2

2)   VMware Workkstation 12.5.6 compiles with kernel 4.4.62-18.6-default

but the Workstation Servef does not start

3)    Upgraded openSUSE to openSUSE Leap 42.3 Beta

4)   With Kernel  4.4.68-2-default WS fails to compile since it cannot find file version.h.   Version.h is nowhere to be found in any sources.    This happened with some versions of openSUSE many years ago but there version.h could be found otherwise.

5)   I have a choice.   I can go back to kernel 4.4.62-18.6-default or I can use kernel-4.4.68-2-vanilla which I know will compile and has version.h.    The other possibility of course is to use another distro.   Unfortunately I'm finding that Debian 9 has problems with recent upgrades.

If anybody knows how I can version.h for the current Leap kernel I'd appreciate it.

How to create symlinks on a Linux guest's shared folder (VM WS 7.1.x)?

$

Trying to create a symlink with ln -s [target path] [symlink name] on Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 guests:

user@ubuntu:/mnt/hgfs/db-win/dev/ws$ sudo ln -s /home/user/develop/ws /mnt/hgfs/db-win/develop/ws/ubu_vm
ln: Creating symbolic link „/mnt/hgfs/db-win/develop/ws/ubu_vm“: Operation not supported
This is independent of whether I run with root permissions (sudo) or as normal user.
Host is Windows 7 64bit.

My question: Is it possible to create symbolik links on hgfs shares at all???

I saw http://communities.vmware.com/thread/297284 as well as http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1007277&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=179149990&stateId=0%200%20179151533, but they don't really match.

So - is there a way to create symlinks on a Linux guest's shared folder and - if so - which one?

Thanks,

Karsten

Fedora 26 and VMware Player

$

Hey guys,

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening:

I had Fedora 25 installed on my machine, on that I had VMware Player installed working just fine, this weekend I upgraded my PC to Fedora 26 and VMware Player stopped working, I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it with no luck, it won't show anything, no errors, no messages, nothing, not even running it as root will give anything.

Any ideas what can cause that?

Thanks in advance.

issue connecting via Blast when not using Blast Secure Gateway

$

We have a new View 6.1 environment up and everything works perfectly except when conecting via Blast.  On our internal Connection Servers the only way that I can successfully connect via Blast through a HTML 5 browser is by having the "Use Secure Tunnel connection to machine" and "Use Blast Secure Gateway for HTML access to machine" checkboxes checked.  When I uncheck them I receive the following error when attempting to connect to a pool:

Your desktop has been disconnected.

Attempting to reconnect to desktop...

Your desktop may have an untrusted security certificate. Click here to accept the security certificate, then try connecting to your desktop again.

Looking at the Connection Server debug log I see the following errors:

startSession failed, protocol error PROTOCOL_ERR_FAILURE

Error_Event:[BROKER_POOL_PROTOCOL_UNAVAILABLE] "Unable to launch from Pool ****** for user ******:  There were no machines available that reported protocol [BLAST] as ready": ProtocolId=[BLAST], SessionType=DESKTOP, Module=Broker, UserDisplayName=*******

User ****** could not be connected to existing session for launch item ******* does not support protocols [BLAST]: The requested protocol is unavailable at this time

Application launch failed, exception was: The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available. [NAME=BLAST, ERROR-CODE=PROTOCOL_ERR_FAILURE]

The "VMware Blast" service is running within the VM's in the pool and when I check those two boxes within the Connection Server configuration I'm able to successfully connect via the Blast protocol.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Workstation fails to start or upgrade after Linux distribution upgrade

$

I just upgraded my Ubuntu desktop system to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (previously 14.04 LTS). After the upgrade VMware workstation won't start. When running /usr/bin/vmware I get no errors or diagnostics, just a return to the CLI prompt after about half a second. I've been running VMware 10.0.2, I think. (/usr/bin/vmware -v similarly displays nothing).

I assumed that an upgrade to Workstation 10.0.6 might solve any problems and replace any files or links missing as a result of the distribution upgrade, but instead, when running the downloaded bundle, I get the message "The system is up to date. Nothing has been modified". When trying to run previous bundle files, I simply get a hang.

So rather than randomly nuking VMware's files and libraries in an attempt to stimulate a re-install I thought it best to inquire here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am going to integrate my vRA with AWS, Is it possible I can use event subscription for VM naming convention while deploy VM in AWS, if not what is the other solution to achieve this.? If you have any document or workflow, please share it.

Thanks,
