Sorry, total beginner at vROps

I would like to create a (historical) report on the total amount of Hosts, Clusters and VMs in my Datacenters.

I found

summary | total_number_clusters

summary | total_number_hosts

summary | total_number_vms

but have no idea how to use these in a report All

Can anybody help me out?

Re-certifying on the same version of exam

If one has, for example, VCP 5.5 certification or VCP6-NV and cert is up for renewal, can you sit the same exam? I know it is advisable to pursue and different track or upgrade to a higher cert that I may feel more confident to pass the same version I am familiar and comfortable with.

So in short, would a VCP 5.5 DCV certified individual sit the VCP 5.5 again just before the two years in up as long as the exam is not retired?

OS Monitoring with vROPs Dashboard

Anyone have generic dashboard ideas for collecting useful stats on OSes within a vROPs environment? I have vROPs 6.3 currently and want to monitor anything from the Underlying VM resources to the OS type and performance stats. Not sure where to start..

App Volumes 2.12 - Win10 1607 - Slow login

$

We have Windows 10 1607 as golden Image and use AppVolumes 2.12. Writable volumes are disabled. We use UEM for user settings synchronisation. Whith no AppStacks attached, we have a logon time of about 30-40 seconds. After we applied one or two appstacks, the logon time will grow up to about 1 minute. In the svservice.log file i can see e delay of several seconds.

AppVolumes_SlowLogin.PNG

Why do we have such a delay?

In this two appstacks i have modified for thesting the snapvol.cfg file and disabled the recursive registry. But that not really helped us in our environment.

What can i do to perform the logon? What is causing the slow logon?

Thx

Inconsistent and slow logins with any version of Appvolumes

$

Hey everyone,

We were running Appvolumes 2.10 and logins were 30+ seconds depending on the number of stacks assigned to a user. In some cases (Visio as an Appstack), logon times would shoot to in excess of a minute. We then upgraded to 2.11 as part of a Horizon 7 rollout (with vSphere 6 U2) and the logon times increased! Ouch! All areas of the build (the core is very vanilla) were reviewed alongside the hosts, storage, network and DB, but with no obvious problem areas. Each time this was raised with VMware, it was acknowledged that certain parameters that were applicable in 2.10 were no longer acknowledged in 2.11 and as there were product limitations for 2.11,  wait until 2.12 and there will be vast improvements!

Well, like others in the forum, during testing of Appvolumes 2.12, we are still seeing yet further slow down of logins!

We managed to improve the speed by dropping SSL, (setting to use port 80 from agent to manager), but the overall result is that logins are no better than where we stood before.

Interesting and unsurprisingly, stopping the svservice (AppVolumes) brings us back to circa 15 sec logins. However, just running the service even with no user stacks assigned adds about 10seconds to a typical logon so there seems to be an effective heavy penalty for it to merely check for user assignments, let alone attaching anything.

Im going to start investigating hardcoding requests to specific domain controllers in preference to using the domain fqdn in the configuration to see if that changes anything too. Will report back.

If anyone else has any similar experience or problems, please let me know as for us, 2.12 was considered to be the last roll of the dice for Appvolumes in preference to a rivals offering that seems capable of cutting our current logon times in half which for a userbase of 1000 multiplied by 15 seconds is the equivalent of 250minutes of lost productivity each time all users log on!

Thanks

Update Manager missing in vCSA 6.5 build 4944578?

$

I deployed a new vCSA 6.5 build 4944578 and Update Manager is not visible on the Home page, nor the Home menu, nor is there an Update Manager tab on a datacenter, cluster, or host view.

The vSphere Update Manager service is "Good" and "Running".

Does anybody else see this with vCSA 6.5 build 4944578?

I have a separate vCSA 6.5 on an earlier build 4602587 where Update Manager is present.

Tearing my hair out here... (what little is left of it)

Hi

I am running:

   1.8.0

   6.5.0

   4887370

On my client I use Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 Enterprise.

I want to report that when I try to upload a file through web interface datastore, there is a 4GB limit on the file being uploaded.

There is no limit if I use Google Chrome on that same PC.

Thanks.

Binding Actions

VRA 7.1

I have an IaaS form, with certin properties set on the deployment and in the VM I want to bind an action to one of those properties. The form lets me do this in the design tab but when it runs it cant get the value. So the property it is bound to has to be set in the same form. Is there any way around this?

VCSA 6.0 cannot boot after failed 6.5 upgrade attempt.

Hello All,

Yesterday, I attempted to upgrade my lab environment to vSphere 6.5 and was doing just fine until I attempted the upgrade of the vCenter VCSA appliance (from 6.0) I ran into an issue with the ESX Agent Manager running on the VCSA6.0 VM, a quick google search suggested that the EAM service on the 6.0 VM needed to started to get around the upgrade issue. I attempted to restart the service using the service-control command, but it didn't work.  I rebooted the 6.0 VM and ran into a new problem, the 6.0 vCenter failed to boot up. Consoling onto the VM showed the following errors:

vcsa6-boot-errors2.PNG

vcsa6-boot-errors1.PNG

Another google search suggested that the issue is that the journal on sda3 has gotten messed up and to attempt a repair. I couldn't find anything specific to the issue I'm seeing.

I've ran through booting into the kb article below to log onto the filesystem with bash and attempted to run a fix, but to no avail

"fsck failed" error when starting vCenter Server Appliance (2081464) | VMware KB

Any suggestions?

VMs on Different ESXi Hosts Can't Communicate With Each Other

Hello,

I need little a bit help. We have six ESX Hosts 6.0 and there are about 250 vms running. These hosts are connected with two (Dell M100E) 10G netcard to the two Nexus, one for production, vmotion and manage and second one for SCSI. Sometimes when we migrate one vm to another host, it loose connection to another vm's (it´s vary). Is it possible that we have somehow wrong configuration in our Nexus or what you can suggest to do next. This problem has started 2 weeks aqo.

Thanks in advanced for any help...

Configuring snmpd on esxi for OMSA.

Hello,

We want to use openmanage plugin to check our DELL servers health, we installed snmpd and it's running perfect, we installed OMSA but when i execute openmanage to chech the health i have the error below:

./check_openmanage -H DELL_server_IP  -C  my_communauty

ERROR: (SNMP) OpenManage is not installed or is not working correctly

We did some research on google and we found that the snmpd config file on ESXI is /etc/vmware/snmp.xml and should be configured by OMSA by adding a line that  contain the IOD:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/169065?start=0&tstart=0

If the lines have been not added so we have to add them manually, so my question is how to add this line manually to configure snmpd config file ?

Thank you.

VCloud Availability REST Getting 403 - Why?

I am new to the vcloud availability API.  I have been able, successfully, do a https get on /api/vr/versions.  I have, also, been able to define a session.  However, when I have tried to take the X-VMWARE-VCLOUD-REQUEST-IDheader property from the session request and use it to do a call to api/vr/versions I get a 403 - forbidden error.  The headers I set up are:

Accept:application/*+xml;version=6.0;vr-version=4.0

x-vcloud-authorization: using X-VMWARE-VCLOUD-REQUEST-ID value from the session call

It seems this should work so why am I getting the error - the URL I am using

Horizon view 5.3 + recompose drops vDGA GPU settings

Hi

According to latest release notes of 5.3 , if you use vDGA linked-clones desktops and you do a refresh / recompose the VM's should keep there vDGA settings

but this doesn't apply to the recompose operation , refresh however does work and keeps the vDGA GPU settings ??

/P

Got some good tip from a internal vmware pre-sale and the following solution did solve the problem , so basically remove the following lines on the master .vmx / parent and take new snapshot , then when you recompose it will keep the original vDGA GPU settings .. ;) "After you install the driver and detach the GPU device from the master template manually remove the passthru device entry and then take the snapshot For example the entries to be removed are pciPassthru0.id = "133:00.0" pciPassthru0.deviceId = "0x11bf" pciPassthru0.vendorId = "0x10de" pciPassthru0.systemId = "52c7a340-e91a-596d-e293-6c416aa07cc2" pciPassthru0.pciSlotNumber = "-1"    Message was edited by: Patrik

How to customize vsphere client desktop shortcut

$

Hello,

New to managing VMWare. I've done some research and not found an answer to my question.

I manage three hypervisors. One is running 2.5, another 4.1 and another 5.0. I can manage the 4.1 and 5.0 hypervisors with the 5.0 client, but not the 2.5. I therefore have a specific desktop shortcut to launch vsphere client 2.5.

I would like to be able to launch the shortcut with the "IP address / Name:" field pre-filled to include the target hypervisor name. Are there arguments that can be included in the executable to pre-fill this field ? I'm currently using the "-locale en_US" argument to ensure the client launches in English, and I've tried things like -host, -hostname, -servername, etc. with no results.

Any help most appreciated...
