Wildcards in Auto Deploy host rules?

Hello,

 

I am working on implementing auto deploy and am hoping it is possible to use wildcards in the host rules for auto deploy, particularly I am interested in using the "hostname" pattern.  If my cluster will contain hosts such as esx-host-a01 and esx-host-a02 can I create a single rule specifying the hostname esx-host-a* in the deploy rule?  For example:

 

New-DeployRule –Name “esx-host-a cluster” –Pattern “hostname=esx-host-a*” –Item “ESXi-6.0.0-20160302001-standard”,”esx-host-a”

 

This would make it very easy to manage the auto deploy rules, we would only need 1 per cluster and adding another host to the cluster wouldn't involve making any updates to the rules.

 

Does anyone know if this is possible?  I have tried in the lab and the rule can be created but doesn't seem to match to the ESXi host when the host is booted and auto deploy rules are processed.  What are some other methods people are using to manage the host rules?

Access Point 2.5 Blast Error

Hi,

I have trouble with Access Point 2.5: On Horizon 6.2 or 7 didn't work HTML Blast access (PCOIP or RDP works fine)

When connecting to the Access point  is displayed logon form, but after login-password and click "enter" you recive an error “Failed to connect to the Connection Server.”

Direct connection via Connection Server works fine.

At the same time in events on connection server I find the "Audit success" and "User has logged in"

 

On AP’s esmanager.log there is such Java NullPointerException

[nioEventLoopGroup-31-2]ERROR proxy.HttpsProxyRequestHandler: Error during request interceptor invocation

java.lang.NullPointerException

at com.vmware.euc.gateway.edgeservice.sdk.session.Session.hasCookie(Session.java:163)

 

If I using old AP v.2.0 with the same configuration - all protocols works fine (blast, pcoip, rdp) on both version Horizon (6.2,7)

I try install 2.5 in test environment, without any firewall rules and get the same blast error on both Horizon version.

On the Connection Server Blast Gateway, PCOIP Gateway, HTTPs Tunnel unchecked. I disabled ‘origin check’ on Connection Server.

I try changing option, ip - name. but error disappear only if I using AP v.2.0

config for AP 2.5.

IBM/Lenovo x3550 M5 & x3650 M5 ServeRAID M5210 Configuration Issues

Hi All,

 

I was hoping someone here has had any VSAN configuration experience with the x3550M5 and/or x3650M5 servers using M5210 Raid Controller.

 

I was told that I should set the drives as JBOD (pass-thru) and let ESXi see the drives, however for the past week I've been racking my brain with this, there is no option whatsoever to convert "Unconfigured Good" drives to JBOD. I updated the card with the latest firmware and a JBOD option did appear under Advanced Controller Properties which was "JBOD Mode" Which is in a Disabled state, at this point I was certain this would resolve my issue however when I tried to enable it I get an error message "The requested command has invalid arguments."

 

I've also tried enabling JBOD via the storcli installed on ESXi 6 and even via the storage management option form the IMM. All the documentation I've seen including what Lenovo support has provided indicate that there should be an option to select drives and convert from "Unconfigured Good" to JBOD"

 

I've attached some screenshots, if anyone can please point me in the right direction that would be great.

What ticket types ca be used with VMRC and how to use them?

when I type vmrc.exe --help  get this info:

I know how to acquire a clone ticket and use that. But there are other ticket types that can be used here, what are those? Anyone here have any experience using them with vmrc?

VMware View 6.2 is just a catastrophe

Hi all,

 

I have several Problems with my VDI at 2 Locations. At the Moment we ware running Version 6.2.2.

The VD Pool is a linked clone pool with sysprep. After a recompose i have different Problems:

 

- over 50% of the Desktops stuck in customizing for hours. after that they are deleted. when i log on a stucked Desktop, Windows wants to restart. a Manual restart doesn't Change anything. it's still stucked.

- when i do a recompose of a single Desktop, the VM boots, but the NIC is not connected.

- when a recompose was successfull after some tries, it sometimes happens when a user wants to log on, that the local Administrator is logged on.

 

i think that were the main issues for the Moment. im really getting tired of this.

Can't create all flash VSAN with PCIe SSD

Hi All

 

I'm trying to create my first test VSAN in my lab at home. Its a single node VSAN. I know its not supported but this is just to get me started before I get some more servers.

 

My hardware is as follows:

 

Supermicro X10SL7-F

32GB RAM

Xeon CPU E3-1230 v3 @ 3.30GHz

One Samsung 950 Pro 256GB PCIe SSD NVMe

Two Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SATA SSDs

 

As a test I was able to create a VSAN datastore using one of the Samsung 840 128GB drives as the cache tier and the other Samsung 840 128GB was used for capacity. This worked great and I was able to place VMs on the vsanDatastore and see dedupe/compression in action!

 

I have since deleted the above configuration and am now trying to use my Samsung 950 Pro 256GB PCIe SSD NVMe for the cache tier and to then use the two Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SATA SSDs for capacity. When I enable VSAN on the cluster and complete the setup I get the following errors as soon as I try to access the vsanDatastore:

The capacity of the vsanDatastore shows as 0.00 B and I can't place any VMs on this datastore.

 

Can someone assist with getting this to work? I have tried recreating the VSAN setup a few times but it hasn't helped. I know the PCIe SSD works as I can set it up as a single disk (non VSAN) datastore and place VMs on it with no problem.

 

How can I troubleshoot this? Thanks.

How should we get the support bundle for IaaS components of vRA 7?

 

Create a Support Bundle for vRealize Automation

 

According to the documentation centre, the log collection utility is appropriate to get the support bundle for IaaS component.

However, this tool seems not to be updated for vRA7 as follows:

 

I tried to use this log collection utility for vRA 7,  but the logs wasn't collected expectedly.

 


Can the following be solution for this?

how to change the firewall settings of Edge GW created by vRA

Hi NSX and vRA expert

 

What I'd like to know is how to change the firewall settings of Edge GW created by vRA.

 

I've created a blueprint including transit network as follows:

 

Based on this blueprint, Edge gateway is provisioned but the firewall is also created as below:

 

Because of this firewall settings, the 'User' VM can't access the 'WebSV' VM. How should I operate vRA for making the connection between 'User' and 'WebSV'?

Help! Application installed natively runs fine but thinapp'd version does not run. Will run on 64-bit targets but not 32-bit targets.

Hello everyone, I am stuck with this mind boggling issue so hoping one of you guys can help with your expertise. What is happening is I've captured a 32-bit version of java on a 32-bit Windows server 2003 (same build as a citrix PS server, which is why we are using this machine). Natively calling javaws works like a charm webapp opens fine no issues. The completed thinapp looks like it trys to call java I get the java splash screen then closes.

 

We use a lot of java apps in our company and I have always followed these steps and have had no issues :

 

1. Start from new snapshot - absolute clean nothing but thinapp installed.

2, Install the java verision we use (java7.9 in this case)

3. Create a shortcut calling javaws and pointing to our .jnlp file

4. Test shortcut and it does work natively.

5. post-scan and build

 

When I try and run the final build .exe I see Java 7 starting and closes in task manager you see the process start and close with no errors, nothing.

 

I test the exact same thinapp on a 64-bit win7 machine and it runs fine... which leaves me to believe it's some sort of setting within the package.ini that I am missing. I've attached a copy of our package.ini for viewing.

 

All help is truly appreciated.

View trend for a group of clusters

Hello everyone,

I want to make a trend view for the variation of the number of VMs in a group of clusters. I created the group, the problem is that the metric number of VM is not applicable to a group, and I created a super metric for it but it is not taking the historical data. 

 

Do you have any idea how to show metrics of a cluster for many clusters ?

Has anyone tried stacking the Imprivata OneSign Agent for SSO? We're being told to put it in the parent image along with VMware Tools/View Agent. For environmental changes, we'd love to stack it. Technically it's not supported, but that doesn't always mean it won't work. Would love to hear if anyone's given it a shot. We're going to try anyway.

How can I create a report with the VMs where the installed OS is different from the configured OS?

There is a standard report in vROPs 6.2 called: "Virtual Machine Configured OS Compared to the In-Guest OS" wich lists the OS of every VM.

I would like to receive a report of all the VMs where the two OS fields, "Virtual Machine Configured OS" and "In-Guest OS" are different.

I looked at a way to change the view using filters but did not find a way to compare the fileds.

UMT in large environements - many vCenters

The UMT 3.5 Beta User Guide states :

vCloud Usage Meter can meter at least up to:

  • 20 vCenter Server instances

 

this should be up from the 10 in UMT 3.3.3 - good.

 

From this text do I assume that environments with more than 20 vCenters are supported.

 

Is it possible to get a best practice for configuration changes of the UMT server in cases when it is connected to 20 or more vCenter instances ?

bank6 not a vmware boot bank no hypervisor found

Hi All,

 

I have installed latest (as of today) ESX 5.1 on a 32 Gb SSD.

I have along with that a SSD Raid with a windows 7 OS. I just choose the disk from which I want to boot pressing F11 at startup, and it worked fine so far, but vmware ESX is creating a lot of FAT Partitions. I deleted the drive letter from windows disk management (and I didn't made anything else), as I wanted to get rid of the 3 drives that I don't (and shouldn't) want to use.


After I tried to boot on the vmware SSD, it shows me an error:

bank6 not a vmware boot bank

no hypervisor found

 

And I had to reinstall my system... I didn't had that much stuff yet on it, but still this is painful... I don't know why if I remove the FAT letter drive under windows it screws my VMWare installation...

 

I did this twice just to be sure.

 

Any idea why this is happening and what can I do ?

Telnet Console via Serial Port is dropped

I'm running ESXi 6 and i obtained the standard free license couple of months ago. I have several VM Guests. I usually access them thru Console Serial Port - "telnet VM-Host-IP tcp_port_number". The console via serial was running fine for 1-1/2 months. For whatever reason, I could not connect to all my VM Guests via console. I read some and they're saying that after 2-months period, Telnet Console via Serial Port expected to drop and need license. So, I removed the standard free license and ran as Eval, my Telnet Console worked again. Then, tried putting back the standard free license, telnet is dropped again. From the client, it's clearly that the VM server is denying the telnet on tcp port nnnn.

 

telnet x.x.x.x 5001

telnet: connect to address x.x.x.x: Connection refused

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

 

Under Security Profile, It's always checked "VM Serial port connected over network", Incoming Ports "23,1024-65535", Outgoing Ports "0-65535", Protocol TCP.

 

Any idea if there's a way to allow the traffic inbound with the free license or any recommendations? Everything is working fine except the Console via Serial ...

How to limit the search whiel searching for VM Folders or VMs in a vCenters out of several vCenters?

Hi Guys,

 

I have several vCenters in the vRO inventory and it is expected that one more vCenters may not be reachable at times (Disaster Recovery scenario) and when use the vCenter API what collects everything based on object type the script fails as the VMs or VM Folders or not accessible on the vcenter that is down/not reachable.

 

vms = VcPlugin.getAllVirtualMachines();

 

 

So how I can restrict this search for a specific vcenter VMs or VM Folders?

Need Script for Deleting Disk partitions and groups

Hi Guys,

 

Can any one help me on scripting, To Mount ISO in the OOB / ILO remote console and delete the partitions by using fdisk /dev/da1.we have around 70 servers so manually its not possible to do it for all. if any one can share it will more helpful for us.
