Security Servers Crashing - Old version of View Clients Issue

$

We are having an issue were it seems our security servers randomly stop responding and our load balancer (F5) sends an alert out.

When verifying the logs we see the following:

I opened a ticket with VMware and they told me that this is related to old version of the view client and that the only way is upgrading the clients.... Great..... I asked them if there are ways to block old client and they said there is none...

So now I'm trying to find a way of notifying the users with old clients to upgrade.

Being this in a university, we can't control the versions students have installed so what I would like to do is to create a script that somehow will verify their client version and spit out a message asking them to upgrade.

Does anyone know of a way to identify the client version? I check the Volatile Environment and there does not seem to be an entry there..

I need to make a virtual machine with Mac OS X, but I cannot find it anywhere. I had it when I first used VMWare Workstation, but I have no idea it isn't there. I may have accidentally deleted it, but I do not know how to recover it. Please help. Thanks!

Change VCSA 6 instance from static IP to FQDN

Hi All,

Simple question and probably downright ignorant but I'm playing around with VCSA 6 on an OVH server. As those of you aware of how OVH's network is setup getting networking up and running in a virtualized environment is always a pain and sometimes more art than science. Anyway, to cut a long story short I had to deploy VCSA 6 as a VM with a static IP. There's no easy way to do an out of box FQDN deployment with OVH as the VM will not be network capable at first boot (need to add static routes and change the default vNIC mac address to get it to work).

All if fine and well but I'd ideally like to change it to an FQDN for a few reasons but namely I hate using static IPs for appliances and I want to get proper certs installed and SSO working eventually.

Deployment: Deployed as a VM on an ESXi 6 host. Local SSO, local DB.

So here's the issue, can't seem to find an easy way to do this and very little documentation.

The FQDN is properly setup with reverse also pointing back to the same IP.

What I've tried so far:

1. Changed hostname, added entries in /etc/hosts to point to fqdn. Also changed the following parameter in VCSA web client - VCSA Instance/Advanced Settings "virtualcenter.fqdn" to point to FQDN

- Effect - not visible, still showing up as IP in the web client

2. Changed config.vpxd.hostnameUrl, sso.admin.uri, sso.groupcheck.uri, sso.sts.uri to FQDN. Also changed VirtualCenter.VimApiURL to FQDN (essentially replacing all instances of the static IP with a FQDN)

- Effect - disaster, could not get into webclient though appliance did boot without error, had to reinstall

Soooo, what's the proper way of doing this after experimentation

Appreciate any help.

How to enable Hyper-V in Windows Server 2016 TP4 VM in VMware Fusion?

$

I try to get Hyper-V up and running in a Windows Server 2016 TP4 VM running in VMware Fusion 7.1.3.

I tried severval flags (eg. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/22283.how-to-install-hyper-v-on-vmware-workstation-10.aspx ) and "Hyper-V (unsupported)" as well as "Windows Threshold" (windows9srv-64) guestos settings in vmx file, but always Hyper-V logs an error

ID=63, Severity=Error:
Hypervisor launch failed; The hypervisor was unable to initialize successfully (phase 0x2), and was not started.  This initialization failure may be the result of a platform configuration or firmware issue.  Contact your system vendor for more information or updated firmware.

ID=15350, Severity=Error:

The virtualization infrastructure driver (VID) is not running.

Does anybody have a solution for this?

Windows 10 - VMWare Workstation 12 is not creating virtual network adapters

I originally tried an upgrade from Win 8.1 to 10 last month, and ran into the same issue.  I didn't see any official resolution other than some forum posts with some workarounds, which I didn't want to do as I can only assume down the road those workarounds will be an issue. So last month I rolled back to Windows 8.1 for now to continue using Workstation 12.

This weekend I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 again, and what I did BEFORE upgrading is a complete un-install of Workstation 12.  Then I installed from fresh after my system was upgraded to Windows 10.

Unfortunately I'm having the same problem.

I tried the Virtual Network Editor -> Restore Defaults  (just hangs for a very long time but never creates the virtual NICs)

I tried going to my Network Adapter in Windows, going into Properties > TCP/IP v4 -> Install -> Service > VMWare -> VMWare Bridge Protocol.  I get an "Access Denied" error.

So what is the solution?

I did an upgrade from Win 8.1 -> 10 yes (rather than a fresh install of Win 10) but did this without VMWare Workstation even installed, so it shouldn't matter that this was an upgrade and not a fresh install of Windows. It's a new Windows folder, new install of Workstation.

Is the only solution to do a fresh install of Windows just to get Workstation working? I really didn't want to have to re-install ALL my other programs and settings. There has to be a better way.

VMware certification has lost me ? Has it lost you ? Or have a I lost VMware certification

Let me start by saying I like VMware . I like it very much . I use vSphere at work . I use it at home. I was certified in 5.1 . I missed the window to re certify for 5.5 . Now I am a "has been" as far as certification is concerned . I have to start over again . Take a course which ranges from $3000+ . Add in a fundamental test and then the VCP-DV test . You can see the money disappear . Money which I don't have . I remember saving up to become 4.0 certified which at the time was a challenge. Did VMware lose me or did I lose VMware ? I upgraded our vSphere environment to 6.0 at work . Like I said I like VMware. So has VMware certification lost you as well ? Not trying to start a flame war just that in my opinion the course requirement is hard pill too swallow for anyone even if you can afford it .

Vsphere 5.5 with clariion cx4-120 and vnx5200

Hello,

I have little experience with storage EMC  and I would have a couple of questions about the use of vSphere 5.5 with CLARiiON CX4 storage 120 and vnx5200.

Both the storage are connected fiber channel.

I have to update my infrastructure to vSphere 4.1 to vSphere 5.5.

My infrastructure is composed of 3 servers DELL, one CLARiiON CX4 120 and a EMC2 VNX5200.

First I saw that the Clariion CX4 storage 120 does not support VAAI with vSphere 5.5 while the storage vnx5200 supports it.

So, since I want to use archiving VAAI on VNX 5200 and I can not use it on the Clariion CX4 (as VAAI is not supported with vSphere 5.5).

I like I do?

I leave the failover mode to 1 for the CLARiiON CX4 120 and I configure the failover mode 4 for vnx5200?

It is correct to use the round robin for multipath for vnx5200?

I will use multipath vmware.

It makes sense to set iops from 1000 to 1 as per article vmwarehttp://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2069356 ?

If I leave the failovermode 1 for clariion CX4-120 emc and then as multipath should I choose MRU is a solution supported by EMC in vSphere 5.5?

Thank you

Greetings

I upgraded to vCenter 5.5 from 5.0 and I went to upgrade to 5.5 on one of the esxi hosts and the upgrade said it was successfully but when I rebooted it booted (or reverted) to 5.0.0. Any ideas what i can do to fix this? I was able to to upgrade another identical host successfully.

Upgrading Vmware 5.5 to 6.0 and Windows 2008R2 to 2012R2

I have a small enviroment with a vmware 5.5 update 3 with a single Vcenter and SSO on the same server. The server that host the vcenter is a Windows 2008R2.

I´m in charge of upgrading our vcenter to 6.0, but i would like to know if I can upgrade the SO to 2012r2  and Vcenter to 6.0 together in a new machine. I dont pretend to do a fresh install because I need the historic data.

I read the entire upgrade guide but I´m unsure if this is possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I'm new in VMware and now encounter the issue of ESXi installation, please have your advice.

The testing DUT which is using Intel® Xeon® E3 1105 v2 CPU, 8GB DDR3 x2 (with ECC) RAM, and 32GB SSD storage. The installed ESXi is 5.5 version.

The initialization is okay in the beginning, unit to process the disk formatting and install the ESXi, the purple diagnostic screens are shown.

Have any suggestion?

Thanks

VMWare Workstation + Docker

I recently downloaded a Quick Start image for a Hadoop distribution from a vendor.  However, after downloading, I realized that the link that said VMWare image, was actually a Docker image.  I was disappointed at first, but I was thinking... "oh well, I wanted to build up my knowledge on containers and Docker anyways...."  So I started reading the documentation on the Docker site and it said that I would need to install the Docker Toolkit, which also installs Oracle VM VirtualBox.

I've since found the VMWare image of the Hadoop distribution and I'm in the process of downloading it, but I'm wondering... is there a way of running Docker containers with VMWare Workstation?   I could swear that I read somewhere that VMWare was working with Docker, but I don't know the details.
