I updated to 6.0.1.1 per VMware instructions -> sso -> vcac appliance. After I did that the "iaas-service" shows as "failed." I tried multiple reboots of the iaas server and appliances. Nothing worked. I then read about the 6.0 sp1 patch. I applied it, got some sort of certificate error, and now the iaas-service shows as "blank."
Anyone have any ideas?

My companys has several esxi. I'm having problems to create snapshots in only one VM. That VM is in a ESXi 5.1.0 with 2 more VMS, I'm capable to create snapshots in the other 2 VMs.
However, in the VM that I have problems with the Create Snapshot icon/option isn't available.

I'm trying to install ESXi 5 Essentials from an ISO image via HP iLO, but the install seems to crash at the following error:
isolinux: Disk error 80, AX = 42B4, drive 9F
Boot failed: press a key to restart...
I'm not sure why this is happening, i've downlaoded the ISO twice now, and i still have the same error.
I mount the ISO as virtual media in iLO, boot up with "...standard installer" and eventually receive the boot failed error. I don't get as far as the yellow installer.
My machine is a HP DL360 G6. I have 4 internal SAS disks.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, any recommendations?

We are currently using Folder Redirection and Persona Management to handle profiles for floating pools. We have implemented Writable Volumes, but they are only for User Installed Applications. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding the pros and cons of using Persona Management vs using the Writable Volumes template to handle profile management and user installed apps.

I originally posted a problem about uninstalling an older version in order to install version 11. Now version 11 of workstation fails to install. I now get the error "warning 1909 cannot create shortcut virtual network editor.lnk. Verify destination folder exists and that you can access it".
Then another pops up "warning error 1909. Cannot create shortcut vmwork station.lnk Verify destination exists and that you can access it." And a third error "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error is 2902" I have downloaded this package several times in case of corrupted previous downloads. The quoted folders did not exist as the installation failed and they were not created evidently, so the verification asked for cannot be done. I even created folders with the names given, but still the same errors occurred. Workstation 6.0.1 worked fine until I tried upgrading to version 11. Anyone have any ideas as to this problem?

I got a VM in fusion (7), I just want to move it over to my 5.1 ESXi server and use it. I am getting a virtualhw.version of 11, when I try to move it to the ESXi server it says the HW version needs to be downgraded, any ideas, can I just edit that vmx file with the virtualhw.version that equals ESXi 5.1?

I'm trying to figure out why all of our VMs show up in one datastore group.
We're running VCServer 5.5 with SRM 5.5, and we have identical Nimble Arrays at both sites with array firmware 1.4.11 and the Nimble SRA 2.1.0.
We have about 70 VMs. Each VM we have is in it's own datastore on the Nimble - however we have one large volume that is used for VMWare snapshots and another volume that we use for Windows Paging files. We have three volume collections / consistency groups on the Nimble side - two that take simple storage level snaps and a third that takes VMWare snaps before snapping the storage for replication. I would expect all three of these volume collections to show up as separate datastore groups, however SRM is lumping them together. This morning I created another volume and used Storage vMotion to move the VMDKs that have Windows Paging Files for one of our consistency groups to it's own separate datastore for just those few VMs. Afterward, I asked SRM to recompute datastore groups and they still show up as one large datastore group.
Will the location of the VMWare swap files also combine consistency groups into one large datastore? We try and move the swap files off to other, non-replicated datastores to keep replication traffic down to a minimum.
At this point, having one large protection group isn't causing a major issue, but it might down the road as we haved deemed that some VMs don't need to be protected by SRM, however those VMs are eating up SRM licenses by being part of those datastore groups.

We have AD integrated all our ESXi 5.x hosts and we manually added the AD group (for example "Domain\Admins") to each ESXi host under permissioning tab and granted Administrator access.
However, there has been a change in AD group (say "Domain\VMware Admins") and i need to redo the permissioning all over again on all ESXi hosts. Is there a faster way or Powercli command which i can run against each ESXi host or bunch of them and grant the required permissions.We dont want to go with default "ESX Admins" due to certain company policies.
Any help would be much appreciated.

i am new to powercli and am not a good scriptor yet however, i need a script that will capture the max, min, avg cpu & mem usage stats per esxhost & vm for the past month and import into excel so i can create a pivot chart. key is i need to see the cpu/mem usage data per vm per host. can anyone help me with this. i have spent the last two weeks trying to work with powercli to do this and i am unable produce the results i want.
Today I deployed vSphere Replication 5.8 on a vSphere 5.5 U1 cluster (single site installation). Installation and configuration went fine, and I was able to configure replications as expected. However, shortly after recovering a replicated VM, an installation task - initiated by "com.vmware.vcHms" - started on allESXi hosts. After this, all host's had event entries like "Installation started" and "... 0 vibs installed, 0 vibs removed ...", and all hosts are flagged with "Reboot required" now. I didn't find anything related to this in the documentation, the Release Notes nor online.
Did someone else see this too, or have an explanation for this behavior? I didn't open a support request yet, but may do this later.

I just recently added a third monitor to my setup, but it seems 3 screens might not be supported when using unity. Here's my setup:
- Macbook Pro Retina 13"
- 2 external displays
- Windows 8.1 Pro instance with VMWare Tools installed
I get a message saying unsupported display configuration when trying to enable unity with the 3rd screen enabled. When I unplug on, it seems to work. I've tried increasing the VRAM with no success.
Is anyone else running this kind of setup with success? I can't find any documentation saying it is or isn't actually supported.

I have to upgrade an HP P4500 RAID 10 SAN array and a VMware 5.0 infrastructure.
The VERY FIRST thing I must do is correct a problem where my VMware Failover Manager
lives on the physical SAN disk array and NOT on one of my actual HP VMware Host servers
which is what HP recommends. The network adapter 1 which is the only adapter in the FOM
is "Flexible" which, according to VMware KB article 1001805, is going to initialize as either
(1) Vlance or (2) VMXNET depending on if VMware Tools is installed. Tools are installed
but they are third party independent. The OS of the FOM is
the CentOS 4/5/6 (64 Bit) so I am assuming the NIC is translated into VMXNET, but I am not sure.
In any event, when I go to migrate it off the SAN and on to the physical host, it throws an error:
"Virtual Ethernet card "Network Adapter 1" is not supported. This is not a limitation of the host in general,
but of the virtual machine's configured guest OS on the selected host."
I can go forward and move it (I think) but I do not dare as I cannot be assured it will spin up and work.
Do you have any thoughts on the veracity of the error and what I can do to assure myself it will work?
I would be grateful for any info you could offer me.

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual machine on ESXi 5.5. When I add it to the domain and it asks for a reboot, I the click reboot and it sticks at 'Notifying services that Windows is shutting down' (jpeg attached). I have many Server 2012 vms on the domain that work well.
I have forcefully shutdown, the event viewer after the event doesn't show any issues. Subsequent shut downs stop at the same message. i even left it to run over a whole weekend and it didn't move past this message.
Does anyone know any reasoning for this.

I have a vmware infrastructure with 3 hosts, 1 vcenter and connectivity via fiber channel to netapp storage, whit 4 data storage's and 4 LUN (2 with VMARE file system and 2 with windows file system) and, from 2 weeks ago from vcenter i cant access to 2 data storage (OS and data1) with vmware file system.
Other thing that happening is, for example the OS is presenting to vmware one amount of space that is incorrect.
I can browse but the machines are inactive.

After installing vSphere vCenter and ESXi 5.1 (with latest patches), we are starting to see hosts disconnecting randomly from vCenter.
We have different server models but so far, we have only seeing the problem on our HP Proliant BL465c Gen8 servers.
To solve this, we right click the host in vCenter and click reconnect – and sometimes we need to use the Shell to restart the management agent.
Anyone familiar with this issue?
I want to be able to set an N+1 configuration where a resource pool gets the equivalent processing power of 3 blades expandable into the forth blade. In addition, I want to make a custom share value that ensures that the resource pool gets all the shared time of four physical hosts during contention.
Here is the command I am using to customize that value. All I need to know is how to customize the number of shares to ensure that it owns all the time from the equivalent 4 blades in our cluster.
