New-TagAssignment with tags in multiple categories

$

We have some tags that are in multiple categories. For example a tag with the name 'Test' might be in the 'Owner' category and the 'Creator' category.

When I try to assign one of these tags that exist in multiple categories using 'New-TagAssignment' I get "The specified parameter 'Tag' expects a single value but your name criteria responds to multiple values"

Is there a way to specify with category to assign the tag from? i.e. Tell it to assign the 'Test' tag from the 'Owner' category? I tried adding -Category "Created By" to the command but it said the parameter couldn't be found.

Example of the code is below:

New-TagAssignment -Tag $creator -Entity $vName | Out-Null

CITRIX XenApp 6.5 & NVidia GRID Card

I am currently running CITRIX XenApp 6.5 and VMWare 5.5, I have a VM server running Windows 2008 R2 with an NVidia GRID K2 card installed.

I am using Passthrough on the VM Server to give it (1) vGPU using vDGA. I was wondering if anybody can verify this is the correct way to be doing this? I am having an issue with AutoCAD where the software is not seeing the GRID card, instead when I turn on Hardware Acceleration it is showing VMWare SVGA 3D as the video card which is NOT correct.

Thank You

Upgrading the vCenter Server from 5.5 to 6.0 fails at the pre-checks with the error message “vCenter CA certificate not verified. Stopping”

I am attempting to upgrade my vCenter from 5.5U3b to 6.0u3 (on Win2008 R2). During the installation, I receive the above error, about the CA certificate not verified. I've opened a case, but am still waiting to hear back. Meanwhile, web searches sort of indicate how to fix it ( Upgrading the vCenter Server from 5.5 to 6.0 fails at the pre-checks with the error message “vCenter CA certificate not …

but that page isn't all that clear. They recommend combining multiple certificates into 1, and putting it in a specific place. But they don't show what file names of these certs to be combined are, nor does it seem as if I have the intermediate certificates that the page talks about.

Anybody seen this? I can't get past it, to upgrade my vCenter.

Hi,

I know how to export a list of vms to a csv file in the flash version but can't quite seem to find out how to do it in the html5 client.  Any ideas?  I know there is a power cli way to do it, but looking for the web based version.

Datastore Sizing on NFS

I'm using VMware on NetApp NFS All flash FAS where there is an option to autogrow volumes instead of creating a new volume and VMware datastore when I run out of space.

Traditionaly I've been using a standard 4TB datastore size.

Is it better to keep a standard datastore size of 4TB and create new volumes when I run out of space or should I use Autogrow and let volumes become different sizes as autogrow grows them?

MongoDB 100% CPU

Every so often my management server needs to be rebooted because the MongoDB process will eat up all available CPU until utilization is 100%. The only thing I see in the server event log is the below message, does anyone have any ideas on other areas I can look for logs or reason why this happens? Not even sure if the event log message is related to the processing power but I would assume it is.

Source (server 'HOSTNAME'): Management - Mongo connection problem detected MongoDB crashes reached a critical threshold, shutting down MongoDB node for maintenance. Resolve the issue and start the MongoDB from the Management Servers tab of the Mirage Web Management.

10 hour disconnect

We have a new 7.2 Horizon VIEW environment.  My users are getting booted after 10 hours.  I notice that's the default in the global settings for forcing a user disconnect.

I changed this setting and I had a user reboot her VM and her thin client thinking that she would not get booted after 10 hours, but it didn't work.  She got booted at ten hours on the dot.  Even the session logs shows she was booted after 10 hours.  All of my users are getting disconnected after 10 hours.

Is there another setting somewhere I can change to stop the 10 hour disconnect?

Did I miss something?

Thanks

The /storage/core filesystem is out of disk space or inodes VCSA 6.5.0.10000

I got the following health status when logging in to vCenter Server Appliance console the other day. Not quite sure how to proceed to fix this. Using the Google machine, there are several scenarios where you could clear out the files or expand the drive size.

Capture.PNG

Fix Threads:

VCSA 5.5: vCenter 5.5 appliance space issue /storage/core out of space

Different folder: The / filesystem is low on disk space or inodes VCSA

Increasing Drive Size VCSA 6.0: Increasing the disk space for the VMware vCenter Server Appliance in vSphere 6.0 (2126276) | VMware KB

Deleting Files VCSA 6.0U1: How to Fix /storage/core filesystem Out of Disk Space Error on VCSA 6.0U1

This is what I'm seeing in my /storage/core folder:

Capture.PNG

I'm not sure if it's safe to clear out the folder, or to expand the drive. I'm afraid there's another issue that is causing the folder to fill up, so either of these "fixes" may just be a bandaid to the underlying issue.

vSAN/vSphere 6.0U1 to 6.5 U1 Migration Best Practices ??

Hi,

For a number of reasons we are using vsan 6.1/vsphere 6.0 U1 on several 3 node clusters of Dell R630s.  We are hitting a number of latency

issues with a relativity light workload.  Seems like a logical time to get upgraded to more recent releases given all the improvements to vSAN.

We know we need to also watch HCM and dell firmware updates are a must.

Can anyone share best practices or things to watch out for with such an upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

Issue with external connector

I am having an issue with my external connectors.  I currently have two internal connector (one per cafe node) and two external connectors pointing to a separate domain than the internal ones. With the external connectors it appears that authentication is working by Sync is not working.  I have found the Connector table in saas database and was thinking about removing the sync node and wanted to reach out to you all to see if anyone has any comment on that approach.  First question I have with that is would the remaining node automatically take over the sync role once the current sync node is removed.  I would really like to replace both those connectors with a fresh deploy but need to use the same name and certificates.

Thoughts?

vCD Provider vDC not returned after creation.

$

Hello,

I have workflow which creates a Provider vDC in vCloud Director. After that it creates an Organization and then an Organization vDC.

To create the Org vCD I need the provider vDC. I query the API for it, but it is not returned. However if I have the code loop it eventually shows up in about 20 minutes. Here is a sample of the code.

while (sleepCounter < maxSleep) {

  //Update the vcdHost from vRO to vCD

  vcdHost.updateInternalState();

  // Find Provider vDC

  var vdcs = vcdHost.toAdminObject().getProviderVdcs();

  System.debug("Provider VDC count: "+vdcs.length);

  for each (var vdc in vdcs) {

      System.debug("Have a Provider vdc: "+vdc.name);

   if (vdc.name.indexOf(providerVdcName) != -1) {

   providerVDC = vdc;

   System.log("Found Provider vDC: " + providerVDC.name);

     break;

    }

  }

  sleepCounter += 1;

  if (providerVDC == null) {

   System.log("Did not find the provider VDC, sleep 1 minute");

   System.sleep(sleepTime);

  } else {

    //Found it, exit loop

    sleepCounter += maxSleep;

  }

}

I have had stale data issues in the past, but the updateInternalState() call on the vCD connection, seemed to resolve that.

I am running vRO 7.2 with vCD 8.0.2.  Any ideas? Is there an API call I can use to force the data refresh to happen sooner?

Automated desktop pools when DHCP server is filtering on MAC addresses?

$

Hello folks,

We are considering enabling MAC address filtering on our W2K8R2 DHCP server.  There are two scopes and one of them handles our VMware View VMs.

I am wondering if enabling MAC address filtering will negatively effect our View VMs or when VMs are generated from within View admin console and using vCenter templates and or Composer Linked Clones?

We will populate the Allow list with known MAC addresses including existing View VMs, but concerned about what to do going forward and or how to know what to pre-populate?

Any comments?

Thanks

Narrowing Activity Monitoring

When looking at Activity Monitoring in NSX the default values where virtual machine includes all observed destinations

and destination apps includes all observed destination apps.Is there any way to narrow that so see only one VM or

one application? I guess I could see similar in VRLI. But puzzled why I can't changes what's included in these tabs.

vRA 7.3/SNOW Plugin 2.0 SAML compatibility

We have an enterprise initiative to use an SSO based on the IBM suite of tools. It will be SAML compatible and should provide similar(enhanced) capability to ADFS. Can anyone tell me if they are using any SAML provider besides ADFS with the plugin? We will begin testing within a week, but would like to know if it is worthwhile. Thanks.

Weird Get-TagAssignment bug

I've got two VCSAs at 6.5 build 5705665. When I run the following, I get the error noted below:

Commads:

Connect-VIServer vcsa2.blah.local

I can disconnect from vcsa2 and run the Get-TagAssignment cmdlet successfully against vcsa1. The error only occurs when simultaneously connected to these two servers. I have one other 6.5 build 5705665 VCSA and any combination with it and the other two doesn't result in the error. I also have some 5.5 vCenters on Windows and can't reproduce the error with any combination of those and 6.5 servers.

I've reproduced from Windows Server 2012 R2 (PowerShell 4.0, PowerCLI 6.5R1) and Windows Server 2016 (PowerShell 5.1, PowerCLI 6.5.1).

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Modifying PowerCLI script for Get-Stat2 ?

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone here can assist me in using the script created by LucD  http://www.lucd.info/download/Get-Stat2.ps1 to get the VM statistics:

Get-VM | Where {$_.PowerState -eq "PoweredOn"} | Select Name, Host, NumCpu, MemoryMB, `
@{N="CPU Usage (Average), Mhz" ; E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat cpu.usagemhz.average -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-30) -IntervalMins 5 | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}}, `
@{N="Memory Usage (Average), %" ; E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat mem.usage.average -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-30) -IntervalMins 5 | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}} , `
@{N="Network Usage (Average), KBps" ; E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat net.usage.average -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-30) -IntervalMins 5 | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}} , `
@{N="Disk Usage (Average), KBps" ; E={[Math]::Round((($_ | Get-Stat -Stat disk.usage.average -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-30) -IntervalMins 5 | Measure-Object Value -Average).Average),2)}} |
Export-Csv -Path C:\TEMP\AverageUsage.csv -NoTypeInformation

The above script does not show anything even after I raised the Statistics to level 3 in the morning. Like this one:

PowerCLI with Invoke-VMScript unable to authenticate to Mac VM's

$

I am using PowerCLI to create a large number of Mac VM's that will be using DHCP, and I am wanting to use the Invoke-VMScript command to set the hostname during VM creation. The issue is that when using the Invoke-VMScript command either in a scripted task, or by invoking the command directly, I repeatedly get a failed to authenticate error. This is happening with vCenter 6.5 on a macOS 10.10.5 VM using VMware Tools 10.0.12-Legacy, which is the most current version for 10.10 to my knowledge. Below is the script that I am using with the unique information edited for privacy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Code

$template = Get-Template -Name Mac_OS_10.10_v1.0.0
$datastore = Get-Datastore -Name "VM_Datastore_01"
$vapp = Get-VApp -Name “macOS-VM"

For ($i=01; $i -lt 10; $i++) {
  $vm = New-VM -Name "vm0$i-macos" -VApp $vapp -Datastore $datastore -template $template  Start-Sleep -s 5  $vm | get-networkadapter | set-networkadapter -NetworkName "Private VLAN" -Confirm:$false  Start-Sleep -s 5  Set-VM $vm -NumCpu 6 -MemoryGB 64 -Confirm:$false  Do {  Start-Sleep -s 60  Start-VM $vm  $vm = Get-VM -Name "vm0$i-macos"  }  Until ($vm.PowerState -eq "PoweredOn")  Start-Sleep -s 60  Invoke-VMScript -VM $vm -ScriptText "sudo scutil --set HostName vm0$i-macos.domain.com" -GuestUser provision -GuestPassword 'password'  Invoke-VMScript -VM $vm -ScriptText "sudo scutil --set ComputerName vm0$i-macos.domain.com" -GuestUser provision -GuestPassword 'password'  Invoke-VMScript -VM $vm -ScriptText "dscacheutil -flushcache" -GuestUser provision -GuestPassword 'password'  Shutdown-VMGuest $vm -Confirm:$false
}

Hi,

I am going to integrate my vRA with Azure, Is it possible I can use event subscription for VM naming convention while deploy VM in Azure. How can we achieve this.? If you have any document or workflow, please share it.

Thanks,

Srini
