VMWare Tools + SWTOR = no gpu acceleration/Black Screen

I've tried VMWare tools 10.0.0-3000743 all the way to 10.1.0-4449150 on VMWare Workstation 12.5.2 & player on a Windows 10 x64 VM and Star Wars the Old Republic always results in a blank screen unless I turn off tools/gpu acceleration, other DirectX 9 games work fine (have full DX9 runtimes installed).

I've seen a few threads on here with the same issue, with the tools being fixed in the past, any sign of this being fixed?
