Unable to set hard disk size below 40 GB when creating a Mac OS X virtual machine in VMware Fusion

Hello all, I am using VM Fusion version Professional Version 8.5.0 and I am unable to set my virtual machine to less than 40GB on my Macbook when trying to run an OSX operating system.

I created a virtual machine with Mac OSX operating system and to my surprise it took up 40GB of space, which is a considerable amount of space since my Macbook only comes with 500GB of flash storage. I definitely do not need 40GB on my Virtual Machine, but it will not let me lower the space more than 40GB.

I tried following this tutorial Unable to set hard disk size below 40 GB when creating a Mac OS X virtual machine in VMware Fusion (2044866) | VMware KB

However, when I remove the first hard disk and create a new hard disk as instructed, the Virtual Machine will not boot up and gives me an error message saying no operating system is detected. Anybody know how to get around this so I can go lower than the 40GB?
