How to globally disable sound for all VM's

I have ported vmplayer and vmware-vix to OpenWrt, part of an IOT gateway appliance which can also run VM's. libasound is sigseg'ing.

one possible solution is to globally disable sound for all VM's, since the VM's are intended for web servers, so sound not required. Note that it appears that vmrun appears to attempt to enable sound, prior to parsing vmx file

The title IS the question.

Note that this distribution will have the effect of broadening the Vmware user base, so, it may be in Vmware's interest to assist me in this matter.
