Menu Bar - How to remove (not show) completely?

I was using 5.xx for the past year on my MacBook Air, running Win 7, and all was good. I recently took the machine up to Mavericks, and had a network issue, so upgraded to Fusion 6, which took care of the lack of WiFi. All is good, Win 7 still runs smoothly. I use full screen mode exclusively. However, in 5.xx, I was able to completely stop the Mac menu bar from showing. In 6, if I move the mouse too near the top of the screen, it pops up, making it fustrating to select buttons etc near the top of the screen.

Am I the only one seeing this? Is it normal behaviour, or should I be able to completely stop it from appearing in full screen mode?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers,

-James.
