I recently upgraded from VMWare 9 to VMWare 10. In doing so, I have run into a problem with my Windows 8.1 guest, which is running Hyper-V. What was working perfectly find in WS9, is having problems when booting Windows 8.1 in WS10.
*Note that I have the latest VMWare tools installed. Also note that I am running Hyper-V because I need to develop Windows Phone 8 apps, but my host system is Windows 7. Windows Phone 8 must be developed on Windows 8, and the emulation requires Hyper-V.
When I log into my Windows 8.1 VM, the system becomes unresponsive for about 5 mins or so. If I click in the guest window, a popup comes up saying that the WS10 application has become unresponsive and gives me choices on what to do. I simply press wait for the app to become responsive. Eventually it does and after the 5 mins of hanging, everything seems to work normally.
I've tested running my development tools and emulation after the unresponsive period, and it all appears to work fine. It is just in the boot/login period where WS10 hangs for a long time. WS10 appears to be what is hanging not the guest, as I cannot toggle back to the Home screen or between any other VMS in my list. Also, the harddrive is thrashing pretty hard during this time.
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem? Again, the VM is working find with WS9, but not so much with WS10.
Thanks
