This community doesn't work and VMware doesn't get it...

Hi there,

it's not the first time that I post here, but I'm not here to leave. So lets try to change it in the most positive way possible.

VMware, we are all here because we "love" or use your products, but you're missing the point of an community. There is a critical mass of answers that needs to come from you, your employees.

As a programmer, you want to focus on the problems you're out to solve and not on questions about how to "get started" or "set something up". These question occur here all the time and nobody on your side is recognizing this.

Normally it goes like this:

  • You search the documentation, no luck.
  • You google _a lot_, no luck.
  • You search the forums, no luck.
  • You start a discussion in the forums, waiting day for the first people who _look_ at your question.
  • You wait for a week and get ~30 view, 0 answers, no luck.

Then you're googling arround for hours, sometimes days, find "solutions" (most of the time work arrounds) and then you "solve" the barrier until this happens again.

Don't get me wrong, here are really smart people who are willing to help, e.g. lamw, kudos man, you really got a vmware knowledge that is incredible. There are some others but noone where I can say:

"Look, this guy is on the devteam and was nice enough to answer question X belonging the API Y in a way that is a real solution to my problem."

Here is my tip:You should let your developers spend at least half an hour per week in the forums in order to fulfill this critical mass of answers.

Right now, this community is dead. Just look over the pages and in the answers column. Barely 3 out of 10 will get ANY answer.

I hope this community will be reborn again, since this is, technically, the exactly right place to look for help.

Greetings,

Kjellski

P.S.: Would be *funny* to get any answer to this...
