Hard Disk Space Allocation while Creating a new VM in Workstation 10

Hi Everyone,

I have recently upgraded to VMware Workstation 10.0.1 and found a weird thing. When I create a new VM while providing the OS iso image to auto install the OS, it creates a VMDK file of 8GB at the beginning itself. In other cases it only creates a new vm with vmdk file in MBs. in my case i keep on creating many virtual machines and i have to wait for that 8GB file to be created. Is there any way I can a simple HDD without that big size at the beginning and let it grow as required. here are the steps to replicate:

  1. Select File > New Virtual Machine.
  2. Select Custom (advanced) and click Next.
  3. Select Hardware compatibility as Workstation 10.0 an click Next.
  4. Select Option Installer disc image file and point the iso image file for the OS (i have tested with win7/win8/Server 2008/server 2012) and click Next until you reach to Select a Disk screen of the wizard.
  5. Select Create a new virtual disk and click Next.
  6. Enter any size (I opt for 120/80/60 GBs), uncheck Allocate all disk space now and select Store virtual disk as a single file and click Next Next and Finish.

As soon as you click next you will see a dialog containing a progress bar for Creating Disk ... which will actually end up creating a VMDK file of 8GB, see the image below:

Please help me out to come out of this problem and find a way to create a simple virtual machine without allocating that much space in advance.
