We have two:
identical dell r720xd
dual quad 3.3? xeons, 128gb ram
11 x 600gb 15k cheetah raid 6 array with the 12th drive being a hotspare
Esxi 5.1 is installed to a usb stick
Basicly all of the vms are running on host A and we are replicating all of the vms to host B.
We have 5 or so windows server standard 2008 vms, and another 8 or 10 centos vms. Ram is underallocated.
Some of the vms seem to peg their cpu relatively easily. Specifically the few running centos with a mysql database and apache when looking at top inside of the vm.
Adding a core to the particular vm's doesnt seem to help much.
I'd like some insight on determining if we would be better off getting a pcie ssd or two such as the intel 910. We could put the more intensive vms on there or use it as a cache device?
