VSA 5.1 vs HA Cluster

Hello Everyone,

I recently deployed a VMware infrastructure for a client. Two HP DL380 G8 with 16TB total Disk Space (8TB on each host) to be able to use them to create a VSA cluster.

The scenario below is configured with VSA Cluster in HA mode.

The client asked me the following question that I could not answer and I would like to get some help to be able to answer him;

To test the solution powering down one of the ESX host and logically/supposedly the VMs from the supposed "failed" host would startup automatically on the other host and vise-versa. Is this the correct way of testing this? If NOT how can I test the HA functionality?

(basically I am afraid to pull the power from one of the host as the customer requested to test it.)

I understand that VSA replicates everything between the hosts. So a VM that is on the disk of Host0 would also be on the disk of Host1 (How/where can I see this replication happening?) . Correct if I am wrong please!

The Scenario:

NOTES:

  • vCenter and VSA Cluster Service is installed on a Windows 2012 VM outside the VSA Cluster.

Thank you very much in advance for any help. Cheers
