Hej VMWare-Forum,
this is my first entry and possibly the wrong place.... Here is my topic:
I'm doing my job in a datacenter which is going to be redesigned with VMWare ESX standard on ~20 quad-socket hosts for ~180 virtual machines using a SAN conected by FibreChannel.
We are thinking about configuring the hosts (DL560) diskless and boot VMWare from SD. And there come the questions:
- I think this (SD-Boot) is officially supported - correct?
- Thinking about the SD as a single point of failure, we feel fear of this little thing! If the SD becomes bad condition (anyhow), what about the running VMWare and the VMs? Can we monitor the condition of the SD card?
- Alternatively, we could use a small RAID 1. I'm quite sure that this has been discussed. What is the result, what is the best practice??
- Is there a basic description of how the SD-Boot works, sure there is - can you give me a reference?
Thanks in advance for your statements,
Boris
