Host's VPN connection dies when VM is active

My host machine is a Windows 10 Pro box which uses Sonicwall's Global VPN to connect to our work network.

In the past week I've been testing an older Windows Web Server 2008 R2 VM as a guest. When the VM is active the VPN connection on the host either drops entirely or has a "pulse," where the connection goes up and down repeatedly. The GlobalVPN software still shows connected through all of this, and if I restart the connection it comes up immediately before dropping again quickly.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with VMWare or with Sonicwall, but figured I'd try here anyhow.

What I've tried:

  1. Reinstalled the VPN software on the host
  2. Reinstalled VMWare tools in the guest
  3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the NICs from the guest
  4. Changed the NIC from bridged to NAT and vice versa
  5. Tried both static and DHCP addressing in the gues
  6. Had Windows 10 host try to troubleshoot the VMware virtual NICs.

What I haven't tried yet:

  • Reinstalling Workstation
  • Checked if the problem happens with other guests.

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Thanks in advance.
