Workstation Woes...

Greetings,

I have a few issues with upgrading Workstation....

Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.706)

VMWare Workstation versions 10,14 and 15

I have tried various things but no matter what I try when I upgrade version 10 to either 14 or 15 the following happens;

  • VMnet0 - vanishes, and not matter what I run as an Administrator it never shows again. Consequently various virtual machines that rely on it for the automatic bridged connection will not have network access
  • VSock - is not installed, and I am informed it has to be done manually. But there is no indication as to how you actually perform a manual installation.
  • hcmon - not installed, this is fantastic as it results in the whole installation being rolled back so you end up with nothing.

I have no idea who broke what but between VMware and Microsoft there are questions to answer.

I upgraded 10 to 14 no bother at all... all the problems started when upgrading 14 to 15 as that is when stuff started vanishing. I have even gone back to 10 and upgraded to both 14 and 15 but now VMnet0 just vanishes after the upgrade and no matter how I run the Virtual Network Editor (or who I add to the Network Configuration Operators group) VMnet0 is gone for good. And then there's the uninstallable VSock/hcmon .....

I am currently so angry and frustrated that stuff which is supposed to be simple to do is not anymore, so I'll just leave it there for now.
