Moving ESXi hosts to a new vCenter

Hi. We have been migration our old vSphere v5.5 infra to new hardware. Since we were at Windows version and needed to re-ip vCenter anyway, we simply build a brand new v6.5 vSphere infra with a VCSA. Migrating VMs was simply power off and re-register in new system.

We are getting pressed for time now, so we want to revist our original plan of simply moving any v5.5 hosts from a Distributed Switch to a Standard Switch, and then simply disconnecting the host in old vCenter, and connecting it in the new vCenter. This worked in our previous testing keeping running VMs. But one thing we did not test during that was the cluster you disconnect from in HA mode.

Looking at VMware TID

VMware Knowledge Base

It talks about having HA already set in the new cluster.

The High Availability setting must be recreated on the new vCenter Server prior to host migration.

So this confuses me a bit. The source cluster has HA and full DRS. I know it states put the DRS in manual mode. But I am confused about the HA statement. The destination cluster at first will have no hosts at all. So are we supposed to put the empty cluster in HA mode, and keep the source cluster in HA but simply disconnect the host? Will that not trigger an HA event? I am bit confused. Or should we just disable HA before we disconnect a host and then re-enable after? Thanks,,,
